A Drop of Porter. There was an error in this gadget. Monday, November 30, 2009. Getting around to stuff. I’ve decided that I’m going to try and turn over a new leaf (or should that be an old leaf since I haven’t got around to raking most of them up from the garden) and no longer put things off that I’m supposed to be doing now until sometime in the future. For a while I toyed with the idea of coming up with asking people on Facebook and the like to send me suggestions. But then I thought no. And yet I wa...

A Drop of Porter. There was an error in this gadget. Tuesday, November 22, 2011. I once asked an American person I knew why they called all the other seasons by the same names as us, but decided to call autumn the fall instead. 8220;The answer was simple,” she said, “it is the time of the year that the leaves fall off the tree so it’s called the fall.”. Umm, I thought to myself. That’s just stoopid. Not all the trees, but the ones that books tell us lose their leaves in winter. Most of the leaves have be...

A Drop of Porter. There was an error in this gadget. Friday, May 27, 2011. Power to the people. I was reminded of that old saying ‘power to the people,’ when a power cut this week robbed me of the use of any of the many electrical items I use so often. Of course I realise that the people who use the saying ‘power to the people,’ really want the power handed over to the people who say ‘power to the people,’ if you catch my drift. And hey, that would have suited me fine. After all, how many of you have bee...

A Drop of Porter: March 2011
http://adropofporter.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
A Drop of Porter. There was an error in this gadget. Monday, March 28, 2011. Papering over the umm.books! I was at an open day in my former primary school at the weekend and it got me thinking to how things have changed so much there over the years. For instance, one of things the school has now is a terrific library packed with recycled books. As I flipped through one of the books, it reminded me of how recently I had found a book at home that I had many years ago as a student. Or maybe you were somebody.

Human Rights in Ireland. Irish Perspectives on Human Rights. International Law/International Human Rights. February 19, 2010. At the start of this week that assassins had made use of Irish, British, German and French passports to perpetuate a murder in Dubai has shocked many. However this is far from the first time this has been done and rarely if ever is anyone held accountable for it. The repercussions are often more political than legal. During the 1980s Margarete Thatcher. To discuss the issue with h...

A Drop of Porter. There was an error in this gadget. Saturday, October 16, 2010. Strange as it might seem for somebody who writes stuff like this, but I do get bothered at times by things that just doesn’t make sense. Which is why a new trend I’ve noticed over the past while has really started to bug the hell out of me. It’s a new measurement of time called – a sleep. Especially when there are all sorts of new measurements to have to deal with, like umm, a sleep. And no folks I’m not talking about ...
