8220;Circling the Sun” by Paula McLain. December 11, 2015. Paula McLain’s “Circling the Sun,” is the story of horse trainer/aviator/writer, Beryl Markham. It recalls the remarkable accomplishments of this under sung woman far ahead of her time in Colonial Kenya and explores her relationship with renowned Denys Finch Hatton, safari hunter, and Karen Blixen, author (as Isak Dineson) of “Out of Africa.”. Interacting in polite Colonial Kenyan society was beyond her understanding. She had no wish to be ju...

8220;Trapline” by Mark Stevens. September 3, 2015. A mangled body is found near a campsite, and Allison’s investigation leads to a horrifying discovery. A Senatorial candidate is shot during an outdoor speech in a nearby town, but why? And does the shooting have anything to do with the body in the mountains? Stevens is adept at weaving the majesty of the Colorado terrain with the serious societal and political topics he brings to each book. With layers of compelling story and a solid group of friends...

Cozy mysteries with humor and romance by Cindy Blackburn. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. May 11, 2015. But a lame excuse. But blame this week’s stupor. On my difficult muse. My muse did refuse. To offer anything that. Here it is, Sunday night. And my poem is really bad. This is truly sad! Maybe these next few days. My muse will turn to glad. And what I end up writing. Will somehow turn out rad. March 8, 2015. I’d love to put Jessie. Whether TV or silver. Has yet to be seen. My book i...

Reviews and musings about books and those who love them, write them and promote them. April 27, 2015. Is Facebook of any use? My teenage granddaughters never use Facebook. They’re constantly texting, and I think they’re on Instagram, though, Luddite that I am, I have only a vague idea about Instagram and what it does. One of my youngest daughter’s friends tried earnestly to explain it to me one night but it went in one ear and out the other. Scuse me now, I have to check Facebook before I go to sleep.

Memory of a Murder. The Day I Almost Became a Great Writer. White Hats and Happy Trails. A month after his thirty-eighth birthday, Lieutenant Tall Chambers sat in his gray cubicle in a crowded gray room in the Pentagon filled with eighteen identical gray cubicles. He leaned back, folded his arms across his chest, and yawned. When this report finished running, he’d do the same thing for bases in Asia. Every day, the same sources, the same supplies, the same reports. Three more months to go. He wasn’t ...

Laquo; “One Was A Soldier” by Julia Spencer-Fleming. 10 of the Best Books of the Past Year (2015 update). 8220;Prime Target” by Ellis Vidler. July 23, 2015. Ldquo;Prime Target” caused me to wonder what I would do if placed in that same situation. I consider myself fairly resourceful, but would I have enough grit to stay quiet under the bed while watching my husband be executed? How would I establish that new identity? Is it easier to get lost in a big city or in the countryside, off in the woods? Rdquo; ...
