Pomegranate Thoughts: September 2010
http://pomegranatethoughts.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 12, 2010. Today Jon and I had to put our last granny cat to rest, our dear Hailie. Much to our relief, a neighbor was able to come over and watch the girls, and we took Hailie on her last car ride. She hardly moved while we drove. When we got to the clinic and had her euthanized, she went very quickly. She seemed tired, ready. We, Jon and I, of course were not ready. It does not get easier, even though this is our third. When she finally came into our hands, and there were no other hand...
Pomegranate Thoughts: June 2015
http://pomegranatethoughts.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Our first family dog, the big beast, Indy, made his way to the Rainbow Bridge last Wednesday, June 24. We don't know how old he was, but I am certain he lived an excellent life with us. When Jon and I moved to Berne, we started watching The Dog Whisperer. So, on adoption day, Jon went to the adoption day, and according to him, spent most of his time with other dogs, and as they were beginning to pack up, told the gals there that he'd been sent to adopt Indy. When the girls were bo...

Tuesday, July 15, 2008. One of my students (thanks, Mike! Sent me a link to an editorial cartoon. That is the McCain equivalent of the New Yorker cover of Obama. Monday, July 14, 2008. According to Nico Pitney at the Huffington Post. Barry Blitt the creator of the satiric cartoon aimed to convey the extreme views out there of the Obamas:. The problem is interpretation. The Obama campaign. It created such a stir that it even got time on the News Hour with Jim Lehrer. Perhaps, a title would have helped?

Pomegranate Thoughts: August 2009
http://pomegranatethoughts.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2009. I've stopped blogging here. With Isabel, twins on the way, trying to achieve tenure, etc., there just aren't enough hours of the day to update this blog. I've been mulling whether to keep it up or take it down. For the time being, I'll keep it up. Maybe the time and spirit will appear once again. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Apparently, I'm an Aquarius. Well. There you go! View my complete profile. Rod Carveth's Battling Idiot America. Rob Engberg's Life in New Zealand.

Pravda Kid: July 2006
http://pravdakid.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Thursday, July 27, 2006. MEDIACOMMONS APPEARS ON THE HORIZON. The other day, my pal Jeff Pooley pointed out to me a new project that is being assembled by the good folks over at the Institute for the Future of the Book. And the online discussion boards have been filled with commentary ever since. Will the world be saved if only our insights could be distributed to a broader public? In essence: does the public want this? An audience does not mean ...

A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Thursday, June 28, 2007. In praise of gesellschaft: notes on the quiet glory of the bureaucrat. Midlevel intelligence professionals, State Department planners, scientists "in the bowels of the" EPA, and other clipboard-holding Bob Newhart types. What am I trying to say here? Posted by pravdakid at 11:27 AM. Thursday, June 21, 2007. MEMBERS DISCOVER PRAVDA KID COMMENTARY, AMUSING PRAVDA KID. Folks as rude and pretentious. The Indietorrents. So, th...

http://pravdakid.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Friday, August 31, 2007. My most recent post concerned the fact that the comic book 'renaissance' that has happened since the 1980s can be linked quite directly to the development of a comic book specialty market. Thinking with this, we can see how other media change when they are filtered through a specialty market. I A REPLY TO ARCHAMBEAU. My fellow blogger Bob Archambeau, in a comment on this very blog, says:. A: No, it doesn't. Those outs...

A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Critical Studies in Media Communication. Gets A Critical Forum, or "I Want To Get Critical". But the thing I want to talk about here is the critical forum that comes at the end of this issue of CSMC. After a short introduction by Jack Lule, Michael Schudson and Sari Thomas offer some critical insights about Carlson's article. Bloom and Kelly, by any conventional understanding of the term, were courageous. Without furth...
RobLog: XTerra 6 and a Crazy Few Weeks
http://rengberg.blogspot.com/2009/09/xterra-6-and-crazy-few-weeks.html
160; Incoherent rambling brought to you by much caffeine . . . Wednesday, September 09, 2009. XTerra 6 and a Crazy Few Weeks. August 31st was the last race in the XTerra 2009 Trail Run series. This one was up at Shakespear Regional Park, a nice short drive from Albany. I ended up running with a few coworkers from ASB: Marco and Stephen, who also did the Riverhead race, and Rohith. This was actually the first XTerra Long Course that I managed to finish in under two hours! Posted by Robert Engberg. I'm Hav...

160; Incoherent rambling brought to you by much caffeine . . . Saturday, November 13, 2010. IPhone Taking Forever to Back Up? So I'm finally taking the plunge and upgrading my iPhone to OS 4.1. As I've mentioned here before, I very rarely plug my iPhone into iTunes. I just charge it from the wall or car charger, rarely sync it. Mostly because it takes so damn long to back up. Get your garbage off my computer! The Idiots Guide to Making your Iphone Backup fast. 2 Right-click and select "Reset Warnings" fr...
Pravda Kid: October 2006
http://pravdakid.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Monday, October 09, 2006. My brothers-in-arms (or, if you will, brothers-in-armchairs) Bob Archambeau. What can one do with this? It's not surprising that Adorno moved back to Germany. I suppose the first thing to say about the opening section of Aesthetic theory is simply to call attention to a tendency in the field of communication (and, I'm sure, in sociology, as well; perhaps in English? NO," says Theodor. "How 'bout this rock? Is often exper...

A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. THE PUBLIC INTELLECTUAL, AKA ONE OF THE WORLD'S MORE ANNOYING TOPICS (AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE). I mean, I get it. In one camp, you've got the intellectuals who chide other intellectuals for not being public enough. In the other, you've got some grumblers who problemetize this. It's like a double play: Benda to Gramsci to Said. What's Gattone's point here? Posted by pravdakid at 11:25 AM. Wednesday, June 21, 2006. My pal J...

A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Wednesday, November 29, 2006. DUCK HUNT: A METAPHOR TO HELP US UNDERSTAND HOW SCREENS ACT AS SENSORS. I've spent the last couple weeks thinking about the video game Duck Hunt. I think Duck Hunt makes for a pretty good metaphor for what some parts of the new media environment are all about. How does this screen know what is a hit and what is a miss? Is this some kind of special screen that can act as a sensor, as well as a monitor? Of course, the ...
Pravda Kid: December 2006

A blog dedicated to media research, theory, and criticism. Friday, December 29, 2006. A SUITE OF ADORNO-RELATED IDEAS/RIFFS. It's been a while since I've posted, and even longer since I turned my attention to Adorno here. Allow me please to shock myself back into Aesthetic Theory with a suite of ideas. I have (as has been ordained by the Gods of well-organized ideas, capricious though they be) three ideas to pursue here:. 1) "The Ugly, The Beautiful, and Technique". En Garde, Monsieur Scroggins! In an ea...

A celebration of the every day. Monday, April 9, 2012. We watched General Conference this weekend at our stake center and it was so wonderful! So many great talks. I was so spiritually pumped afterward! During the Sunday Afternoon Session one of the speakers mentioned the opportunity we have to reflect on the Savior's life during Easter and it got me thinking. After a few seconds I finally turned to the woman next to me (who's from. She looked shocked. "It's today. You didn't know? Anyway, Happy Easter!
