Thumbs Up for Death

Thumbs Up for Death. 20 most recent entries. On the spelling of "flyer" (warning: contains quotes from the movie CLASS ACT). Not really sure why I was thinking about this yesterday, but I finally figured out a way to articulate my preference for spelling the word "flyer" with a Y, versus with an I, which just looks wrong. Therefore, a flyer is something that flies. If it were spelled "flier," it would obviously be in reference to someone who is dressed better than someone else. The only possible exceptio...

damn you, Pepperidge Farm cookie commercials: pooplord

https://pooplord.livejournal.com/85067.html

Damn you, Pepperidge Farm cookie commercials. Every night that we've watched television for the past week or so, the same commercial has come on several times, sending us not-so-subtle messages about how we should eat Pepperidge Farm cookies, which are apparently hand-crafted in the Italian tradition (if you want people to know that, PF, then why didn't you call them Peppereggios or something? Here's the recipe I used: http:/ www.cakespy.com/2008/11/pean. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post.

word count is up, readership is down: pooplord

Word count is up, readership is down. The only possible exception I might make for this would be something like law school where obviously you have to absorb a lot of information and know it by heart, but you also end up studying a lot of obscure shit that holds no relevance. Okay, so maybe I studied for math tests once I got to functions and calc, which I view as holding the same water as obscure legal knickknackery. Shifting gears, why do we say "by heart" when we mean "by mind"? Post a new comment.

my mother knows me too well: pooplord

https://pooplord.livejournal.com/83823.html

My mother knows me too well. Good and probably relevant reading on manic-depressive illness I mean bipolar disorder: An Unquiet Mind. By Kay Redfield Jamison, a professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins who has been studying as well as suffering from this disorder for years and years. I guess I'm not using a lot of commas in honor of DFW or something. Anyway. Man. Working now, not thinking about this very much. Post a new comment. Comments allowed for friends only. Or recordings, maybe. Or a bouquet bound together by the ribbon from old cassette tape recordings I'd made. Okay, I'm starting to sound like the uberfan from Flight of the Conchords here. In conclusion: 40 isn't old, if you're a tree. Post a new comment. Comments allowed for friends only. Anonymous comments are disabled in this journal. We will log you in after post. Life, the cello, and everything. Sunday, November 04, 2007. In the paper and on the road. I was extensively quoted in. An article about cellist Truls. In the Indianapolis Star. And this weekend I am in Iowa City, as a guest performer clinician at the. University of Iowa School of Music. The other main presenter/performer is saxophonist. Just a couple of hours from each other, we look forward to some regular musical collaboration. Style, highly dissonant, angry pieces as a form of therapy. It was an e...

Life, the cello, and everything. Thursday, November 20, 2008. So let's just make some quick YouTube videos . . . Short version: I can't believe the comedy of errors and mounting frustrations that ensued as I tried to make some YouTube videos on how to get started improvising. (Emily over at the Stark Raving Cello Blog knows what I'm taliking about; she's encountered smilar frustrations.). And there may be some new readers coming to the blog (if you're one, welcome! Life, the cello, and everything. Saturday, September 06, 2008. Zoë Keating on how she does it. The fabulous looping cellist Zoë Keating explains it all. Well, not in as much detail as those of us who also do cello looping might like, but it's a great WNYC Radiolab. Podcast, with lots of music. Zoë does looped cello compositions; my own looping is mostly improvised or quasi-improvised. (Of course she also improvises, and the podcast ends with an imprvisation.). I love her stuff. Oh, right, addictive.

Eric Edberg: Cello Eye Candy

http://ericedberg.blogspot.com/2008/08/cello-eye-candy.html

Life, the cello, and everything. Saturday, August 09, 2008. This is the back of a 1717 (mostly) Strad cello, being sold by the estate of Amarylis Fleming through Tarisio. Acorrding to the Tarisio page. The back and sides are original, while the top and scroll are the work of José Contreras. I'm infatuated. I want it. The New York Sun. Says the estimate is estimate of $1.75 million to $2.3 million. I'm definitely going to start buying lottery tickets (grin). Posted by Eric Edberg. Labels: cello eye candy.
