Wednesday, November 09, 2005. The fall @ islington academy. The first support band made me want to curl up into a little ball and die on their behalf. resist. Was one half of the reason i bought the ticket. hair like a broomstick and a body to match, 20 rothman’s drawl and old man’s sense of humour. bit grubby. nobody’s fool. i was very irritated that he didn’t receive the clear reverence he deserved. i don’t really understand how someone can claim to be into the fall. And yet spend an entire jcc. This f...

Tuesday, November 21, 2006. An open letter to robert altman. Thank you for introducing me to raymond carver, and for your beautiful bittersweet pictures. I could be sad that there will be no more films, but the ones you made are some of the greatest around. Posted by raspberry beret @ 10:56:00 PM. Thursday, November 09, 2006. No song of the week. Posted by raspberry beret @ 7:03:00 PM. Wednesday, November 08, 2006. Carson Holler @ Tate Modern. As minifig and I stood waiting for the doors to the gallery t...

Monday, September 26, 2005. I am a rubbish friend. I honestly don’t get it. the man told me i was lying when i said i hadn’t meant to and tried to make me pay an astronomical penalty fair. the really annoying thing was, i left work early to try and get home so i could go out to my friend’s birthday do, but this held me up something chronic and minifig. Sorry James - happy birthday. Posted by raspberry beret @ 8:39:00 PM. Saturday, September 24, 2005. A woman's right to shoes. Like little sculptural works...

Thursday, August 31, 2006. Song of the week: the gift. Anyway, by the time I've walked to the Sainsbury's by Brixton tube to buy lunch, I am well and truly plugged into my i-pod. However, I think it's rude not to remove at least one headphone when paying, although two shows you care. Anyway, my song of the week is The Gift. By The Velvet Underground. There are some beautiful details in Lou's story, including:. The 'Awww' when Waldo realises that Marsha 'needed him, and he wasn't there'. Just words when s...

Sunday, October 30, 2005. Madeleine peroux @ the barbican. Walked out onto stage, i hate to admit it but i was disappointed. I had no idea what she was going to look like i suppose i expected something between a femme fatale and a banshee to house that incredible smoky voice, but in fact, she looked like an averagely attractive woman with brown hair, opting for the safe option in black trousers. Of course, this is nothing compared to my disappointment at myself. But how was madeleine peroux. Her voice ha...

Monday, June 26, 2006. Sort of fun, don't you think? S ome people say what I do isn't very feminist. I say it's pretty liberating to get $20,000 for 10 minutes.most women want to be sex symbols, even if they don't admit it. Imagine being considered not for your mind but for how you look. Sort of fun, don't you think? The ravishing Ms Dita Von Teese. Being a sex symbol is different from being a sex object. Being a sex object is about passivity, stillness, boredom. It’s the closed eyes, the open mouth,...

My lovely friends have invaded my lovely home and the wine has been poured, and I, like a freak, am sitting at my dining room table typing away because I simply MUST post my song of the week TODAY because it is Hallowe'en. So, Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London. Happy Hallowe'en.trick or treat x. Posted by raspberry beret @ 8:09:00 PM. Thursday, October 26, 2006. Song of the week: rattlesnakes. Wednesday, September 27, 2006. Song of the week: a coral room. I have hit crisis point. I don't ever mean to turn this blog into some sort of confessional, but bear with me. For a long while now, I have been kidding myself that things that make me unhappy will go away or change or are even doing me some good. But right now I'm at that point where if you cry once and slightly, you suddenly can't stop crying and the sky starts looking suspiciously unstable. Posted by raspberry beret @ 8:07:00 PM. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Song of the year - runners up. Before unveiling Darling Vicarage's Song of 2006 on this New Year's Eve, please spare a thought for the following runners-up:. Yes/No The Futureheads (To fail to include them would be nothing short of treachery). When You Were Young - The Killers (altho' no song this year thought so highly of itself). Crazy - Gnarls Barkley (this year's best #1). Ain’t No Other Man Christinas Aguilera (see post: 7th August). The Top Ten Countdown. Gig of the Year.

Sunday, January 28, 2007. Song of the week: the prayer. I’ve never rated Bloc Party. And to be honest I’m still not sure I do. I saw them supporting The Zutons. A few years ago and thought the second support act, Eastern Lane. Of all people, were better (don’t laugh, in my defence I was at the front, on the bassist’s side, and I’d had a few beers, ok? But I sincerely hope that Bloc Party’. S debut single The Prayer. Strange then, that it begins like an Oompa Loompa. Style boogie as soon as Kele Okereke.
