I am a recent graduate from the University of Cumbria, where I specialised in hand-printed fabrics and textile design for interior purposes. My latest project 'Spring in the Dales' is inspired by the local counrtyside surrounding Hardraw, my home village. I have taken a tendency to draw what I see whilst on my walks, from cows grazing to over-used stiles. I use this imagery within my prints, creating little scenes and displaying an interaction of the elements.

Cumbria, Past to Present. I began with drawing birds and flowers using a variety of media whilst focusing on scale and colour. From my drawings, I gathered imagery that was developed into motifs to print. I also developed some of my drawings into stitch, experimenting with quality of line and texture. I produced a collection of cushion covers inspired by Dorothy Wordsworth along with handprinted Tea-towels.

My sketchbook is essential. It allows me to explore drawing techniques using a range of media. I look at scale, colour and layout of drawings, combining stitch and collage. When out walking, I like to record what I see, from the tiniest flower, to large machinery, reflecting how these elements are perceived though my drawings. The sketchbook is the back-bone of my work.

Spring In The Dales. These are photographs of my current pieces that are inspired by my home, the Yorkshire Dales. My final collection is complete with four fabric lengths, each varying in design, and are 300cm long x 120cm wide. These sit alongside eight cushions that all vary in design and scale. My designs are screen-printed onto cotton sateen, a fabric that has a shiny luster on the surface. I have also dyed my fabric, creating diveristy in my collection.
