Red-backed Shrike at Overstrand September 2008
Poppyland Nature: May 2012
http://poppyland-nature.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 28 May 2012. Green Hairstreaks and Marsh Fritillaries. A walk at Overstrand this morning revealed that at least a dozen Green Hairstreaks. Were present on the clifftop vegetation, with these being the first ones that I've ever seen there. Other new butterflies for the year noted were at least one Wall. And a Small Tortoiseshell. Drifted over and a Large Red Damselfly. Following a tip off, the afternoon was spent enjoying a number of freshly emerged Marsh Fritillaries. Saturday, 26 May 2012. Heade...
Poppyland Nature: March 2012
http://poppyland-nature.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, 31 March 2012. Having only solely birded in Britain and Ireland, I finally took the plunge and embarked on my first foreign trip. Florida was the destination selected due to relatives having a place out there, and as they have developed an interest in birds since being there, they were more than happy for us all to go out in the field every day. Flying into Orlando early evening, Turkey Vulture. Was noted on one of the airfield pools along with an American Great White Egret. It was then on to o...
Poppyland Nature: December 2011
http://poppyland-nature.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, 31 December 2011. Review of the year. With another year gone, here's a quick look back at what has been an excellent year on the patch. Further afield 2011 also provided a good haul of British ticks with White-throated Robin, White-winged Scoter, Rufous-tailed Robin and the putative Slaty-backed Gull, plus honourable mentions to the Eastern Black Redstart and Oriental Turtle Dove. So overall a really excellent year, and here's to 2012 and many more memorable encounters. Extensive checking of th...
Poppyland Nature: July 2012
http://poppyland-nature.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 31 July 2012. With summer having temporarily arrived, I made a quick day trip down to the south coast last week with my first destination being the New Forest for a spot of dragonflying. Crockford Stream was my first port of call, which proved to be a really excellent spot. Walking from the car park at Crockford Bridge down to the stream, the heath was found to be alive with Silver-studded Blues. Flitting across the heather in the rapidly rising heat. Nearing the stream Small Red Damselflies.
Poppyland Nature: June 2012

Tuesday, 26 June 2012. Green Sandpiper and Keeled Skimmer. Took a quick trip along the coast to Cley yesterday to see the Sacred Ibis. Which is currently gracing Popes Marsh, and whether its an escapee or a Cat C vagrant from the feral French population is was just a nice bird to enjoy as it devoured a host of invertebrates expertly extracted from the bottom of the wet meadow. Heading back I called in at Beeston Common and soon found my hoped for target Keeled Skimmer. And my first Emperor. Were present ...

Mostly Happisburgh, Mostly Birds. This website is best viewed using Firefox v.3. This evening was warm and fine and as I put some rubbish out I became aware that the local Swallows and House Martins had assembled high over the houses, many giving agitated alarm calls. Within seconds the slim form of a Hobby appeared overhead but it seemed disinterested and continued northwards, the Sand Martin colony along the cliffs probably it's intended destination.
