Monday, 31 March 2014. 365 Days of Tea no. 90. This was a bit of an experiment! Using a black and white photo as reference, I started shading in shapes with a black pastel pencil instead of roughing it out in charcoal first. Pastel pencils are harder than soft pastels, which is great for precision but less forgiving under a putty rubber. I just had to go with the marks I made! I must have seen something that reminded me of Thelma and Louise so that it popped into my head when I was pondering this one. I played around with a different brush on this one where I just layered all the color over the background color so that it has something of a block print texture mixed in there.
