Porch Talk: No words

http://porchnighttalk.blogspot.com/2009/03/no-words.html

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Monday, March 2, 2009. Yesterday I had one of those moments. There were no words available. See, one of my friends. And his wife were entrusted by God with a baby boy 7 months ago. This little guy of theirs. Was born with a rare skin disease only 56 children per year are born with. He needs to be bandaged up and re wrapped over and over every day. Every time his skin is rubbed (at all) it blisters. You feeling the situation?

Porch Talk: A Rainy night

http://porchnighttalk.blogspot.com/2009/06/rainy-night.html

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Thursday, June 4, 2009. Last night me and a few bro's hung out on the porch. It's been a while since I posted but last night there was a moment. Most of the evening it rained and rained. We talked about communion with God. What do we want/need from Jesus at the deepest level? What Name of His means the most to us this day? We paused and reflected. Then we combined the two thoughts to form a prayer. We took time and listened.

Porch Talk: June 2008

http://porchnighttalk.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. It was maybe the most surreal 50 yards I have ever walked. 50 yards for my my daughter to know the depths of how much I love her. 50 yards for her to know just how proud I am of her. 50 yards for her to know how much I believe in her and her decision this day. 50 yards to meet the man who will love her the rest of his life. Who gives this woman to be married to this man? How will you provide for her?

Porch Talk: One Speed Bike

http://porchnighttalk.blogspot.com/2009/02/one-speed-bike.html

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Sunday, February 22, 2009. A couple days ago I forked over $45 for a used beach cruiser bicycle to get back and forth to the library where I study. With only one car, and a limited budget, $50 was max spending. I put the last $5 toward some handle grips. I am still trying to wedge them on the bike. It’s interesting to go slow. Most of my life the last 20 years have been in the fast lane. Going 100 MPH it seems. I'd love to he...

Porch Talk: November 2008

http://porchnighttalk.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Saturday, November 15, 2008. This past month I started building a fence. I knew I was building something, i just didn't realize it was a fence. Back to the fence in a minute. Maybe you've heard the story of the two brothers who lived next to each other with a adjoining property line. Arose, name calling began followed by insults. Of course, it was as much symbolic as it was physical. The message was, "don't come over here".

Living life with what I know. Embracing what I don't. LENT IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER. February 17, 2015. Lent is the forty-day period (excluding Sundays) starting on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. It lasts 40 days to commemorate the experience of Jesus fasting for 40 days in the wilderness in preparation for his ministry. The word Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word. So why should we observe Lent? Why should we prepare for Easter? Jesus of the Scars. You are commenti...

Living life with what I know. Embracing what I don't. Recycle: Picking Up the Tab…. June 6, 2014. June 8, 2014. A while back, I wrote about an experience I had while living in Annapolis, MD that explains what I was trying to convey to my friend. I hope that my experience will serve as an encouragement to those of you that desire deep meaningful connection to people over the notion of initiating cold conversations with conversion in mind. PICKING UP THE TAB…. You could often overhear philosophical discuss...

Living life with what I know. Embracing what I don't. The Power of a Praying Toddler…. May 29, 2014. May 30, 2014. Earlier this week, I shared with you about my battle with depression and self-hatred in college and how the words of author Philip Yancey. Helped to guide me towards a different path. I was honestly scared at the prospect of opening up in a completely vulnerable way than I had ever attempted to do before. What is the old wisdom about the definition of insani. Living life with what I know. Embracing what I don't. I’m Rick Gebauer and I’m a 30 something follower of Jesus who has a propensity to get it wrong and as a consequence I’m a constant consumer of grace. Everyone you come across, everyday is worth Jesus to God. I try to let that truth define how I treat others and influence what I decide to do with my life. I serve as the Director of Young Adults at The First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, FL. I think we would be friends if we ever met. The Power o...

Porch Talk

Blog centered around ongoining spiritual discussions with friends on our porch. Tuesday, December 29, 2009. I looked out the window and could not believe what I saw. It was Christmas eve and I was exhausted from shoveling snow the past four hours. Was the sun playing games with my mind? It looked like my porch, the beloved sanctuary, was leaning over. The weight of 20 plus inches of snow three days before had literally pulled the porch off the bolts that had connected it to the house. Panic mode set in.
