Lose and Find, a collaboration with Ryan Coyle (RISD ID '10) and Carolyn Spinney (RISD ID '09), is for a course called Experience Design. We imagined a system where RFID tags can be used to trace the history and owners of an object as it changes hands due to loss, yard sales and moves.

Every year 2 million patients get preventable. Antibiotic resistant infections in the hospital and 90 thousand die as a result. Doctors and nurses wash their hands one-third to one-half as often as they are supposed to. Even if you get the whole process down to a minute per patient, that’s still a third of staff time spent just washing hands. Dr Atul Gawande, Author of Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance. The Artist's Machine was a studio exploring the use of electronics such as motors and sensors in interactive art. My work from the studio will be posted soon. I made a Digital Dandelion, which answered your wishes when you blew on it by recommending websites that could help with your desires. If you chose "Love" when you blew on the dandelion it would direct you to match.com, etc. Maybe more helpful, but much less romantic than it's analog counterparts scattering their seeds in the wind.
Nursery Nightlight

This nightlight for a baby's nursery was my response to the "One day paper lampshade challenge." We were given a day to design and make a lampshade out of only paper for an Ikea Grundton lamp. I thought it would be a good idea to cut out 1080 circles. It wasn't. But I like the results! My nightlight would be made by cutting paper with only one die and can be sold in a flat envelope. The user assembles it and can control the brightness by peeling open more layers.
