Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer. Game Design and Development. Demigod builds and balancing. May 10th, 2009. I’ve been spending quite a bit of time thinking, and playing, Demigod over the last couple weeks. One of the things I’ve been thinking about and meaning to write on is character design and balance, specifically balancing out all of their spells. I went to David Sirlin’s talk at GDC. Bite is always useful. In the beginning of the game I use it to heal and harass the enemy. Later on I us...There...

Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer. Game Design and Development. Future Play Pt 1: Wherein I go to Canada eh? November 14th, 2007. Canada is a strange place. This land has trolley. Trolleys are trains that drive on the road. Or you could call them buses that run on rails. They are big and scary and obey street lights. Cue foreshadowing. As in J.O.S.H? Due to all this excitement, Josh and I plan on finding a different hotel to stay in tomorrow and Friday night. Very loose bathroom doorknob. May 2nd, 2007.

Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer. Game Design and Development. March 11th, 2009. Yep, development on my capstone project has started and it is the beginning of day 3! I will try to keep this blog updated with our progression as well as some more in depth articles on what I’ve been working on. On Monday, I began work on my deferred renderer, trying to get multiple render targets (MRT) working but didn’t have much luck. Yesterday was much smoother and I got MRT. Filed in Computer Games. Go check it out.

Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer. Game Design and Development. April 25th, 2009. I picked up Demigod recently. It’s been one of only a few games I’ve been looking forward to over the last year or so and I was really excited when it came out and started getting decent reviews. In case you are unfamiliar with it, Demigod is a game very similar to Defence of the Ancients (DotA), a custom map for Warcraft III. That I spent countless hours playing back in the day. The gameplay mixes some RTS. The game run...

Philosophical Ranting of an Engineer. Game Design and Development. November 6th, 2005. I found a mouse I want. It is weird. Surprising isn’t it? This mouse is circular. It has 4 buttons on the top and 3 pressure sensitive buttons on the side. It has 3 ball bearing on which it glides on the bottom. It has a 12mhz processor and ram inside of it. One uses their fingers and not their entire hand to move it. These are some impressive specs. But mostly it is really weird. I want one. Check it out.
