Thursday, November 6, 2008. Can you believe it? Alexa is double-digits.yes, 10 years old today! This is her second birthday in a foreign country, isn't that weird? She's the one who pointed it out of course. We've had a great day so far, here, the night is young as we just finished our pastry round at 6pm.dinner is out of the question until at least 8pm. Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Notewe don't have the best internet access here in Sesimbra. We'll post when we can.bom dia! Our first full day in. And what a beautiful setting. The beach is spotless, the water clear and full of so many colors, brightly-painted fishing dories, a sea of red-tiled roofs and that castle on the hill. Alexa bagged her first castle today. I think it was a great introduction before some of the more ornate castles to come and really makes you think about how young our own country is.

Saturday, November 15, 2008. Today is our last day in Paris. Cliff will actually be leaving this afternoon (thank you travel rules) and Alexa and I tomorrow morning. I anticipate a day filled to the brim of absorbing the ambiance here, which probably means strolling, bread and pain au chocolate. Sunday, August 22, 2010. Beach walks with the dogs (we are dog sitting Violet). We have had people over, visited many local sites, gone to the valley twice and been to the beach numerous times. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. We celebrated Iris's birthday today! We are so fortunate in our small community to have such a strong commitment to exchange students from AFS and Rotary. I don't remember a single, exchange student from my high school days in San Diego and the school had 3x's the number of students than this one in Newport. Credit must be given to those who have organized and promoted these exchanges for many years! Kudos to you Evelyn and company. It surely helps and this village rocks!

I am starting a new blog for hosting our 2011-12 student from Italy, Elisabetta. Iris returned to Finland where she has already started school for this year. She reports that her English speaking isn't quite as fluent after just a month even though she found speaking Finnish a bit challenging upon arriving back at home. Who would have thought?
