Friday, January 31, 2014. BIRDS CHIRPING] . [WIND RUSTLING]. It was a gray morning after weeks of bright sun. Any salt crust on the kayak left over from the Elkhorn Slough paddle was being rinsed off by the steady drizzle - there would be no playing in the water today. I took my oatmeal to that magical 55-inch window and pulled up a Netflix video, "Forests" to fill some quiet moments while planning what I expected would be a totally indoor day. How to best relate to those who have lost those gifts? Singi...

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. It's been around for a while. Holding the camera out at arm's length and clicking is fun and quick. But with a bit more effort the self portrait can be taken up a notch . Galen Rowell's work was always on an impressively high level (so to speak). For more, see mountainlight.com. Friday, December 12, 2014. Paddling the Rivers of the Mendocino Coast. Three fine paddling destinations enter the Pacific Ocean along the Mendocino Coast. Thanks to Sierra Club trip leaders Larry and Shelly, who organized this outing, a small group of us were able to enjoy them all during a well-organized outing in November, 2014. During time off from paddling, I lingered with our little motor home on the bluffs here. I walked, read, and hibernated through one restorative drizzly day. Later in th...8220;...

Saturday, June 21, 2014. A Pretty Selectric Knockoff. I visited Ole Kehlet yesterday. He maintains a squeeze-in typewriter repair shop on 16th Street, in the old shady section of the area of Sacramento known as Midtown. The purpose was to stand embarrassed at his counter while he deftly undid the damage I had done when I had tried to force-feed a Selectric III font element to my Selectric II. Nandina berries - flickers will eat them at first hint of ripeness. I like the sunlight glints on the tiny water drops on the blue fescue . And the leaves of the Japanese maple. The doggies impatience shows when i carry a camera on our walks . But I can't resist stopping to play with shadow and color in the lower garden. Links to this post.
