November 10, 2011. Wednesday, November 9. Below are some thoughts since arriving in Rwanda this week. In the days and weeks ahead, I’ll continue to fill in the blanks from Kenya in my typical, shitty, roughshod way. Thanks for bearing with me.]. The rural health clinic he founded? We lift off again,. Adieu, adieu,. À la prochaine fois,.

Newer posts →. It’s another way of life. August 14, 2011. Monday, August 1. It takes 12 minutes for the Gautrain high-speed rail line to connect arrivals at OR Tambo International Airport with Johannesburg’s high-rise business hub, Sandton, and about half that time for my carefully laid plans of recent months to get entirely upended. But I wasn’t entirely sure it was. No beverages on the platform! Gautrain, bless your heart! I’m back in my mile-high city, my sun-scoured palace on the veld. I’ve returned ...

A Journey of Sorts…. August 30, 2010. Posted by Route Projects under Voices. Still she was, and still she stayed. He was pressing hard, on her mouth, on her chest, on her innocent womb. The entire weight of him was crushing, crashing on the lightness of her. Almost destroying her. Though she kept fighting, silently, the best she could to free but an arm from underneath this punishing mass. And so the wind blew on, a wailing vagabond treading the troubled night. Ssssshhhhh… No te mueves. Darkness claimed ...

Is that a gavel in your pants?: June 2010

http://gavelinyourpants.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Is that a gavel in your pants? Rants and musings on peace and human rights issues, local, national, and international. Add one part seriousness, one part cynicism, and one part insanity. Stir vigorously. Learn more at my handy webhome. Money can't buy you class. I'm just back from a 12 day jaunt through Missouri for work (with a little fun tossed in), and am still going through reams of emails. However, let this entertain you in the meantime. Cycling East Africa: Things I've learned

http://cyclingea.blogspot.com/2010/12/things-ive-learned.html

A blog about my last few months living in Tanzania then cycling around east Africa going through Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Sunday, December 26, 2010. There are a lot of squirrels in Somalia. When you hear a clang it's usually best to stop and see what it was. Brakes aren't essential - they are very useful. Uganda has the worst drivers and the most sensible pedestrians. Ethiopia has the best drivers and the least sensible pedestrians. There is a correlation. Tales From the Hood.

Cycling East Africa: December 2009

http://cyclingea.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

A blog about my last few months living in Tanzania then cycling around east Africa going through Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Wednesday, December 30, 2009. It took a couple of days to get there, I first had to get a bus from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma which took about 7 hours on good roads. Dodoma is the capital of Tanzania and the houses of parliament are there, however in every other way it is overshadowed by Dar es Salaam which is Tanzania's main city. After a while the first bus ...

Cycling East Africa: Matilda's Sick List

http://cyclingea.blogspot.com/2010/12/matildas-sick-list.html

A blog about my last few months living in Tanzania then cycling around east Africa going through Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Saturday, December 25, 2010. I've now finished the cycling (except perhaps for the odd potter about town). Matilda's born the brunt well but she's showing the scars of the trip. This is a list of the things she's currently suffering from (not the things she has suffered from and had fixed). Right pedal crank bent. Missing one front spoke. Mali and the Afgha...

A blog about my last few months living in Tanzania then cycling around east Africa going through Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Wednesday, March 24, 2010. I got my first visa today, for Burundi - which is (by per capita GDP) the poorest country on earth.  I need to get there in early June to be able to get in and out before my visa expires which gives me a long way to go before then . I'd better get cracking. Links to this post. Sunday, March 21, 2010. Almost ready for the off.

http://cyclingea.blogspot.com/2010/12/whose-afraid-of-big-bad-somalia.html

A blog about my last few months living in Tanzania then cycling around east Africa going through Tanzania, Malawi, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Whose afraid of the big bad Somalia? Ok, I admit it, I am a touch nervous in Somalia (Somaliland). I've done my homework, spoken to people and looked at the recent history and there's very little to be scared of. But still . it's Somalia. Save some snow for me! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). So here I am. . . Working on making things a little more presentable. New, temporary design for this page. Title image is scanned version of my own handwriting I did years ago. Background image is photo taken from my back door in New Orleans, shortly after Katrina. Much like the city, there's still a lot of infrastructure to rebuild and messiness to clean up, years after disaster struck. Just not enough resources in the meantime. For now, check my tumblog. For what's worth reading.

Needless to say, when we have hamburgers I'm a little limited on side items - did I mention he's not a baked bean fan either. 1 Box Multi Colored Rotini. 1 Block of Pepper Jack Cheese (cubed). 1 Bag Mini Pepperonis.
