Prête à Parler

Friday, June 25, 2010. Welcome to America, where you are treated like a moron. Welcome to America, the land of litigation, where if you don’t treat everyone like they have an IQ of less than 50 (i.e., “Your coffee cup may contain hot liquid. Use with caution”), you are liable to be sued. Welcome to America, where it takes an hour and a half to get through airport security. Welcome to America, where people come in sizes ten times larger in all dimensions, but especially as far as waistlines are concerned.

Prête à Parler: Random Acts of Kindness Day

http://potentialpolyglot.blogspot.com/2010/05/random-acts-of-kindness-day.html

Thursday, May 13, 2010. Random Acts of Kindness Day. 8221; Let me explain. I doubt there is one specific “Random Acts of Kindness” day because every. Day is Random Acts of Kindness day. Believe when I say there are some things I will miss terribly about this country. People never believe me or seem really skeptical when I rave on and on and on about how genuinely kind and wonderful and helpful Taiwanese people are. People are astonished when I tell them this is totally par for the course.

Prête à Parler: March 2010

http://potentialpolyglot.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Lost in a Foreign Land. Contrary to popular belief, I do not have a poor sense of direction. I cannot count the number of times when I have followed my instincts correctly and gotten to my intended destination while the “man” in the car (note the quotation marks, which were very deliberately inserted) insisted I should’ve turned the other direction some miles back. Monday, March 1, 2010. In any case, at the very end of December, Alex came to visit me. I thought documenting wha...

Wednesday, April 14, 2010. A Reflection on Co-teaching. You may have noticed that I am standing up here alone. Unfortunately, neither of my co-teachers were able to make it to our workshop today. As such, this is not going to be a typical co-teaching demonstration, as having only one teacher entirely defeats the purpose. Instead, I am going to talk a little bit about what has worked and what hasn’t in my co-teaching experience and show some clips from my observations. I should be nice, we would play game...

Stella's Roadtrip: January 2011

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 13, 2011. The winter here is way too snowy, once again. People try to reassure us that it's not normal, but this is 2 years in a row. I'm not really buying it. But luckily Micah and I are headed out west at the end of the month for a little vacation from all the snow. But NOW, we're living here in Fayetteville at our friend Lydia's house. Which sits on 30 acres. So I did some exploring. Below are some pictures of all the interesting stuff I found on those 30 acres. Micah on the bed.

Stella's Roadtrip: June 2011

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. After the Rendezvous the spring continued to be awesome (up until yesterday, when one of my campground-mates broke his arm. He got really lucky to have walked away, but he needs surgery later this week. He's trying to keep his spirits up though, and he expects to be back in a month)! I have 3 WOODSians (my college climbing club) friends visit for the Rendezvous and decide to move down here. One of Micah's good friends did as well! Casey top roping Easily Flakey. Stella's Roadtrip: July 2010

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 28, 2010. The rock around here is as hard as granite. It takes a hammer drill and appx. 1 bit per 10 or so holes. That makes this old hand carved face even more impressive. A cookout I planned! About 50 people came. The ghost town of Thurmond. Cranberry Glades in July. Cottongrass. We took this same picture last fall. The part that eats the bugs. Some wildflowers for Grandma! About 3-4in. high. We climbed on a random boulder in the Monongahela. And I did it in a skirt. Waist high by the 1...

Stella's Roadtrip: Late Winter/Spring 2013

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2013/08/late-winterspring-2013.html

Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Sorry I'm behind. I'm currently living in a campground with no electricity or internet (I know, a campground without internet. Weird, huh? Wait, you don't think that's weird? In all fairness though, I haven't added any pictures on facebook in forever either. This was the second winter I lived with Ruth. Ruth and Craig started dating the summer before, so Craig was down in Chatty with us. Rachel's friend Bri moved in too. Now, of course, she's MY friend Bri. Good to see you are...

Stella's Roadtrip: December 2010

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 5, 2010. I know, this post's a little late! Sorry about that everyone who's reading! Hopefully it'll have enough pictures to make the wait worth it. Here we go:. In August, Micah and I went to the West Virginia State Fair. It's nothing like the Ohio State Fair. Not nearly as big or sweet. And it would have cost us over $10 to ride this ride. So we didn't. But I took a picture of it. Then in September, Micah took a trip to France! I included some of his pictures because they're so good!

Stella's Roadtrip: February 2013

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 3, 2013. The promised snorkeling pictures! The water was neon. This picture came the closest to capturing the absurd color. These were crazy coral balls. They were huge, and too close to the surface to swim over, so I just sort of sat there staring at them. I have no idea why they formed that way. Every time I saw one I started singing Heart in my head. So. I was singing it constantly. We saw sea turtles! More fan coral. And some other cool corals. Coral reefs are so full of life! Our ne...

Stella's Roadtrip: April 2011

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 10, 2011. Here's the rest of the trip pictures! From Bishop, Micah and I headed to Las Vegas! Then it was through the scenic state of Utah! It's almost impossible to get good pictures from a moving car, so here are some compromises. This snow bank is already 6 ft. high, so that snow is probably getting 12' of air. I'd never seen anything like it. A really short tunnel. Utah is the best! Escalante National Monument. See the road winding theough there? Down in the canyons. Chris and Jodi's ro...

Stella's Roadtrip: February 2012

http://stellathegiant.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 16, 2012. This winter has been warm and sunny everywhere. Before it started, though, I decided to move to Chattanooga for the season, to stay warmer than I have been the past couple winters at the New. Which means I've had an incredibly warm winter! There have been 4 days so far with a high below 40. That's it. It's snowed a total of one night, and was all melted before I got up. It's been in the 50s and 60s a lot. Fantastic!
