Exploring quiet lanes and tracks with your donkey is so relaxing and the donkeys seem to enjoy it too. Thorough training of your donkey for harness is most important; you must be confident that the donkey is happy to do all that you need to ask, before putting him to the vehicle. Safety is paramount. Then find a suitable vehicle and well-fitting harness, and away you go.

Family and Other Animals. The Jacks’ stables. The use of an electric fence helps to keep the donkey’s weight under control. All donkeys require worming regularly, ideally every 8 weeks. It is also important that the droppings are collected from the paddock every day, to prevent re-infestation. Your vet should be happy to advise on a good worming programme. Donkeys need their teeth checking just like we do, so an annual check by your vet is advisable and he will take any remedial action.

At Gorcott Miniature donkeys every foal starts ‘nursery school’ from the day they are born, we handle them daily, brushing and touching them all over, picking out their feet and they get used to wearing a little head collar. This is why we only breed from the best, putting our carefully selected Jenneys (mares) to the best Jack (stallion). All of our donkeys are registered with the ‘Miniature Mediterranean Donkey Association’ they have a passport and ID chip, they are fully vaccinated for tetanus, and are fully wormed. Each donkey is sold with a correctly fitting head collar and lead rope, full written details of their worming programme and vaccination programme, and as much help and advice as you want. Foals are available when they are weaned at 6 months of age. We have nothing available at this time.
