Power to the Bauer: Eggs
http://powertothebauer.blogspot.com/2012/01/eggs.html
Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Monday, January 30, 2012. The cardboard box. That's what came first in my chicken adventure. Our fifty meat birds and twenty-five layers were sent through the United States Postal Service in two ventilated cardboard boxes strapped one on top of the other. The package was chirping as T. brought it out from the back and it chirped all the way home, stopping at sudden movements or loud noises only to resume seconds later. Power to the Bauer: August 2010
http://powertothebauer.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Monday, August 23, 2010. What would you do if you had staffed bananas getting frost bite in the freezer and a baseball bat of a zucchini you grew threatening to go soft in the crisper? There are, of course, any number of things you could do given these circumstances. As I have an extreme fondness for both banana and zucchini bread, I decided to make zucchini banana bread. Makes two 9x5-inch loaves. A few gratings of nutmeg. A nice bake for a cold, damp day.
Power to the Bauer: July 2011

Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Friday, July 8, 2011. Rooibos-Anise Hyssop Sun Tea. It's always nice when delicious things practically make themselves. Sun tea is one of those things. You can put it out to steep in the morning and forget about it most of the day and then when you're in need of a refreshing beverage (because if it's hot enough to make sun tea, it's hot enough to drink a cool glass of something) your tea is ready to be strained and poured over ice. Rooibos-Anise Hyssop Sun Tea.
Power to the Bauer: May 2011

Power to the Bauer. Adventures in real food. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. So what to do? Thursday, May 19, 2011. The Bauer is Back. My geographical relocation means a number of things, but most pertinent to this post is the change in my proximity to the garden. I am now, instead of 20 miles, 20 feet from the garden, which makes keeping on top of the weeds so much easier. I can also check the progress of my seedlings daily (not weekly) and putter before breakfast while the kettle boils for tea.

Matthew Archer: Busy Busy

I've been busy with school (exams and dissertation) lately, hence the lack of blogging. I'm too busy to breathe until late August, but rest assured,. If i make it through math camp at Yale. Once I make it through math camp at Yale, I'll start blogging like a fiend. I'll be a doing a PhD in environmental economics there, so I should have plenty of stuff to gripe about. Until then, smile. If you're not familiar with the Mississippi Power Company's integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) project called Transport Integrated Gasification (TRIG), you should read about it here. MPC claims that this new technology, which is being developed and tested in China, is a cleaner way to burn coal. That may be true, but a "cleaner way to burn coal" is still very, very dirty. And with coal, CO 2. Is the least of our worries; secondary emissions like sulfur and mercury are much more dangerous.

Let's Talk about Rich People, or Why Poor and Middle Class Republicans Are Stupid. There's a lot of debate right now over tax increases on the wealthy. Obama and most Democrats suggest that extraordinarily rich Americans should honor their social contract. And pay a more substantial tax rate than their secretaries, while Republicans argue that this is "unfair" and "socialist.". Obviously, there are exceptions. Obama is trying to fix this via the Buffett Rule. Let's look again at Lloyd Blankfein. About 41...

Matthew Archer: Austerity Foolishness
http://matthewarcher.blogspot.com/2012/06/austerity-foolishness.html
There's an important point that Paul Krugman's been making lately, that a lot of people don't seem to get. Having a car to get from place A to place B may be necessary, but it's obviously not sufficient. You also have to have gas, you need a driver, and you need someone willing to turn the key. Same logic. Of course, there's an important relationship between economic downturns and the environment (there's an excellent paper by Stern and Bowen. Also, if anyone says Solandrya to me, I'll slap a.

Taxing consumption is still wrong. Courtesy of John Tamny at Forbes a few weeks ago lauding Eduardo Saverin (of Facebook fame) for renouncing his US citizenship so he won't have to pay capital gains taxes, or "feed the beast" according to this. Then he says we should switch to a consumption tax. Well, I've talked about this before. Here's the graph I made:. Consumption taxes aren't fair. They don't even make economic sense. Get it? Also, if anyone says Solandrya to me, I'll slap a. Conscience of a Liberal.
