PracticalCrafts: 2011 Book Reviews
http://practicalcrafts.blogspot.com/2011/06/2011-book-reviews.html
Sunday, January 2, 2000. As with last year, I haven't been good about actually writing reviews. I expect I'll come back and review the more notable entries at some point, but probably not everything. In the meantime, this is at least up to date with everything I've read this year. 1 What Distant Deeps by David Drake. 2 Search by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. I'd give it a solid B. Just the thing to make a long flight go by faster, or unwind with a light thriller. 3 The Kingmaker by Brian Haig.
PracticalCrafts: A Hat with a Curl
http://practicalcrafts.blogspot.com/2009/07/hat-with-curl.html
Sunday, July 19, 2009. A Hat with a Curl. And Kendra delightedly said she would. I cast on for the hat that same day, but with one thing and another, only got around to finishing it this weekend. In this picture, I'm halfway through the sewing- see how it rolls less on the right side? It's not a perfect solution- you get a ridge on the right side (mostly hidden by the rolling brim):. PracticalCrafts: Positioning Buttons
http://practicalcrafts.blogspot.com/2008/05/positioning-buttons.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. One more thing about the sweater- I noticed when I was positioning buttons that I was using a trick I can't recall having seen it written down anywhere. (So where did I pick it up? But I find it useful to use safety pins to check the button locations. I use the safety pin as a toggle, put it in place, and then button the sweater using the toggle-safety pins:. Back to socks and swatching the next sweater! May 08, 2008. May 08, 2008. May 10, 2008. What a GREAT idea! England- Cotswol...
PracticalCrafts: Sporty Cabled Mitts
http://practicalcrafts.blogspot.com/2011/03/sporty-cabled-mitts.html
Monday, March 14, 2011. I finished the mitts over the weekend, and since Lisa. Asked for the pattern, I thought I'd post it: (If you spot any errors or have any questions, please do let me know- this is only the second pattern I've ever written up- and I don't think anyone but me ever knit the first one! Note that this design is super-stretchy, and should fit most adults even with some variation in stitch gauge. Stitch gauge: 5.7 st/in in stockinette. Row gauge: not important. Needle size: US 3. Continue...
PracticalCrafts: July Highlights
http://practicalcrafts.blogspot.com/2015/08/july-highlights.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2015. We had friends over to play board games. Biscuit likes board games. He's gotten very brave, at least with our usual crowd of cat-loving friends. Here, he's checking out a new game, Elysium, that we picked up in Portsmouth. He sat in on a game of Ticket to Ride. Here, he's dominating the galaxy. Or at least sitting on the Eclipse box. We had a nice afternoon strolling around Boston. Here's Commonwealth Ave. And the Boston Common. (I've got a park theme going here.). At the end o...

Sunday, April 1, 2018. Belated London Part the Fourth. As I was recently reminded, the blog has been sadly neglected of late. So, let us return to last year and the last set of photos from our English travels. Having seen the Cutty Sark in our previous ramblings to Greenwich, we decided to go back and actually see the boat, something we hadn't previously managed despite several previous trips to Greenwich. It's a beautiful boat, and makes it easy to see the romance of the tea clippers. Later, we ventured...

Family of Hand Crafters. Posted by Practical Creations. Asymp; Leave a comment. Before we left on our Colorado trip. The teenage girls at church got together to make two quilts. We gave 10″ blocks to ladies and girls at the church who either embroidered, painted or wrote on them. Then a few of us ladies pieced the quilt together. The teen girls did the quilting. This is the second quilt. It was for Mrs. Thornsley and we took with us to. Colorado and presented to her that Sunday. Asymp; Leave a comment.

A Journal From Ben Dempsey. Improving Focu…Errr Shiny Object…Focus. June 4, 2014. You are completely capable of being focused. But for some reason, you’re…oh look a squirrel! What’s going on here? Instead of making excuses let’s figure it out by asking a couple questions. Are you sleep deprived? I see a lot of parents nodding their heads here. Seriously, a nap can (and will) do wonders.
