Practical Upholstery: August 2015
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 20, 2015. New Hampshire Upholstery Antique Restoration. The chair on the right is the subject at hand. Probably been 50 years that this chair has been serving. Try that at your corporate box store furniture outlet. I see very few broken coil springs in my work, but this chair had one to replace. Removal of lots of tacks throughout this piece and new traditional webbing on the bottom base. Hand tied coil springs, of course. Then tradition calls now for a coat of burlap. All the original h...

Practical Upholstery: October 2014
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2014. This hide-a-bed has really held up well over a few decades. 16 yards of fabric chosen in the shop will sure freshen up this piece. One piece 3 pillowed back sure requires lots of tailoring. Surged deep fitting arm covers. Complete and ready to return to its home. Wednesday, October 15, 2014. This odd couple is just that, as they have different dimensions and arm styles. Time to pair 'em up. The wood work cleaned up real nice with this. What a nice tapestry. I carefully re-tailor...

Practical Upholstery: Colonial Loveseat Upholstery In New Hampshire
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2015/05/colonial-loveseat-upholstery-in-new.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. Colonial Loveseat Upholstery In New Hampshire. I'd say this little beauty is a solid 50 years old. A little bit of restoration and it will be good for another few decades. A few screws in this solid oak frame to hold things in place. The owner chose a in stock herringbone fabric. Lots of pieces of fabric to cut off for this colonial piece. And rebuild the front nosing. Fresh coats of cotton is the way to go. The outsides backed and lined. The skirts steamed, backed, surged and lined.

Practical Upholstery: June 2015
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Upholstery New Hampshire Style. This couple has some really nice lines and size. There are a lot of smaller frame wing backs with shy wings. These are a great example of a pair of wing backs with good size and lines. After pulling lots of layers of staples and tacks, and freshened up the exposed wood. Time to plot and cut a nice soft cherry color fabric that has a width of 108 inch width that came from a custom fabric house in San Francisco. Same with the wings.

Practical Upholstery: July 2014
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 29, 2014. This pair of solid European designed extra large chairs with nice deep seating depth and horse hair and natural cotton throughout. Time to pull lots of tacks out of these old timers. Real nice accent to have these extra heavy chairs on wheels. I redrilled the pilot holes and epoxied all 8 legs for reinforcement for many years to come. The Webbing on the base needs replacement. The nosing was so shy because of shy springs across the front rail. The line is nice and proud now. This ...

Practical Upholstery: March 2014
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 30, 2014. This New Hampshire found orphan ottoman, has had all the old staples and fabric removed. The exposed wood freshened up ready for the new. The side belting in the front and back tailored up nicely. And the side shows the heart of the fabric also. Corner tailoring sure takes more time and it's worth it to set this one up for decades to come. And of course the top centered. For the last few years I have been setting indents on the dust cover in the front and back of the ottomans.

Practical Upholstery: February 2014

Friday, February 28, 2014. To start this cushion work off I painted myself in a corner as they say by mis-calculating the yardage needed to complete the task at hand. I figured a way out of it. Below shows the match tailoring of a set of cushions for a matching porch love seat and sofa. Mirrored exact pleats throughout the matching 5. And the seat cushions. Mirrored beltings as well. Custom pockets for the zipper sliders. Centered and mirrored zippers also. I have 4 throw pillows made up. This frame when...

Practical Upholstery: September 2014
http://practicalupholstery.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 4, 2014. This love seat and chair set in units sure got some age to them. The longer bench was totally warped out and the owner re-made another and set the springs in also. Sure did a nice job. Old timers deserve traditional build up as much as practical. Hand sewn the front lines to the spring rail. This 3/4 inch decking pad sure smooths out the spring base for a smooth sitting experience. And hand sewn around all 4 sides of both bases. The front lines set strait without any waves.
