2013 Year in Review. This year was a mix of good and bad. Lost an aunt to cancer in August, made some health gains, had some career struggles, and spent time with dear friends I hadn't seen in ages. Ultimately 2013 was pretty good to me, especially considering how rough previous years had been. I'm also still so relieved and grateful to be living the Bay Area. I've carried this goal over from last year, because I absolutely reaped the benefits. Sleep when my body asks for sleep. Eat when it asks for food. Block out the requests of others (within reason) in favor of taking care of my own emotional needs. Take the GRE, and formally apply to graduate school. More "for fun," less "work-adjacent." Keep on Keeping On. Well, I was a bit worried I'd have to cut short all this healthy good stuff I've been doing recently. My short achilles tendons were really starting to hurt and my feet screamed at me after every workout. Pointed out that I hadn't replaced my shoes in awhile. Whoops. Sad that I only seems to be updating this space for these reports, but oh well! Better than nothing, right? Last month was a busy one, and I am still trying to catch up. Let's see how it looked! Up to level 8 in Duolingo in Spanish. Worked out for about 9 hours. Better than last month, though still lower than I would like. I only managed another 10% or so of Lisa See's On Gold Mountain. When Can I Start Not Working. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. I talked to HR at my soon-to-be new job today. She went over the basics such as hours I will be working, the time my shift starts and ends, my probationary period, wages. Then she told me about my sick time - 5 hours every two weeks, personal holidays - 36hrs this first year, vacation - I can't even remember how much of that I get, and the mandated furloughs - I need to take 8 days in the next two years. Then she asked when I would like to start.

Sunday, September 13, 2009. I was reading a bloggers story of a food stand-off when they were very young and it reminded me of my own food stand-off. It involved pea soup. My younger brother and I both tried it, spit it out, and refused to eat any more. My parents didn't tolerate waste of food. We were to sit there until we ate every last bit. 7 hours later we were still sitting there, obedient to the punishment, but not about to eat that soup! We never had to eat pea soup again!
