JACIL is part of a grassroots movement directed toward independence and the social change of individuals with disabilities. Due to federal mandates, the majority of the staff and board of directors are required to be persons with disabilities. JACIL first opened its doors in 1997 and in 2000 started a satellite office in Mason County with a full time staff person located there.
