Notes from the prairie. What fun I had creating them and the search to find my own style. Today most of my prairie quilts depict something of the land around my home. I have taken pictures for years of the farmland, wooded areas and bits of remaining prairie lands nearby. The weathered barns, fences, windmills and chicken coops often become a focal point in one of my quilts. With silk ribbon I can then add spiders, bugs and other details that would be impossible to create with fabric alone.

Ann Quilts: Crazy Quilt Saga - Repairs
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/crazy-quilt-saga-repairs.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. May 27, 2014. Crazy Quilt Saga - Repairs. This crazy quilt provides a good example of the different techniques that I use to help maintain aging silks. It also had a special problem - a silk ruffle on the edge, some of which was in really bad shape. I used three different techniques, depending on the type of damage in each patch:. Of the couching stitching in progress. For applying this silk. Of applying a patch.

Ann Quilts: Now on Pinterest
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/now-on-pinterest.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. April 22, 2015. Two of my buddies, with whom I share and discuss business plans for our on-line businesses, have been urging me to join the Pinterest world. I've been resisting having yet another "thing" to keep me at the computer. At first, I also resisted having this very blog until both my kids told me, in no uncertain terms, "Mom, everyone. Who has a business has. So, I'm introducing you to my boards. Is collec...
Ann Quilts: Repairing Broken Lace
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/repairing-broken-lace.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. May 11, 2015. This is a lovely Edwardian dress with loads of lovely lace. The lace was broken in a few places. Here's how I repaired it. Petals had broken away from the borders, leaving the flower crumpled and fraying. I decided not to cut any of the dangling thread ends, so as avoid risking more unraveling. I whipstitched the broken thread ends to the remaining lace. In progress, 1. In progress, 2. Quite honestly,...
Ann Quilts: A Quilt From The Heart
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-quilt-from-heart.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. December 31, 2013. A Quilt From The Heart. This little quilt carries more heart-felt love than pretty much any other quilt that has come my way. Writing up its story seems a great way to wish everyone a loving and warm new year. When I was about 6 years old, my mother was killed in an auto roll-over. I had lost my father to TB three years before, and my mother's best friend took me to live with her. January 01, 2014.
Ann Quilts: Magic Vine

160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. December 26, 2012. This is the Magic Vine quilt I was working on in the photos in my. All I had to do was attach the borders to the center panel, baste it up, and start quilting. The appliqué on this quilt is exquisite, perfection. The fabric choices are just plain fun, with the prints often echoing the shapes of each species of flower. It looks like this quilt artist designed her own border vine shape. This on...
Ann Quilts: That Old Italian Block
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/that-old-italian-block.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. November 13, 2012. That Old Italian Block. Although it sounds more like someone searching their memory for the right words, that truly is the name of this quilt pattern, "Old Italian Block". The owner of this quilt had been told that the name is Corn and Beans, but it's really not like any of the blocks by that name in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. And the 1900 crazy quilt. Here are some...
Ann Quilts: Textile Stories
http://annquiltsblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/textile-stories.html
160; Welcome to Ann Quilts. February 5, 2012. A train of thoughts prompted by comments about my tapestry adventure. Wouldn't be great if these wonderful textile elders could sit around the hearth and tell us their stories! Just imagine the places a 500-year-old tapestry has been, and the hands that have touched it and taken care of it. A cool history of our language, including the Great English Vowel Shift (! I've written a book! An author: "...
