Anglican + Calvinist: February 2006
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Sunday, February 19, 2006. Two questions: why is it so cold in here and why are we singing African-American spirituals seeing that everyone is English? The following was my evening here in Oxford, an interesting combination of things you may or may not find on the other side of the pond. 1 Riding a bike in the rain. 2 Old English Parish Church. 3 African-American Spirituals in an English Church? Posted by Hans-Georg Gadamer @ 1:00 pm. Tuesday, February 07, 2006. Gunton's book is inf...

Anglican + Calvinist: November 2005

Are you a "real man"? Sunday, November 27, 2005. Why All Police Officers Should be Replaced By Dogs. Don't make us get dogs to do our jobs! So this morning at about 5:00 am I was laying in bed and there is some noise outside, people talking. Knowing that this is a theological college and everyone should be in bed I looked out the window to check it out, and sure enough there were these two guys trying to steal my friends motorcycle! To help. I was pretty sceptical at this point and cold. 2 Women shouldn'...

Anglican + Calvinist: August 2005
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Gregory of Nyssa is available for pizza parties, tv commercials, and geometry classes. I said, 'Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.'" -. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." - John 17:20-2o. The Beauty of the Infinite. As Pr...

Anglican + Calvinist: January 2006
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Thursday, January 26, 2006. No one can have God as Father who does not have the Church as Mother". Let me quote John Calvin for you just in case you think this is a "Roman" thing:. Evangelical conceptions of Church. I hesitate to even capitalize Church when using it in evangelical terms because most of us were taught to view Church in the same way as we view the sacraments: something we kind of do but we know nothing really happens. Are you serious? Some groups in America I think ar...

Anglican + Calvinist: September 2005
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Saturday, September 24, 2005. Welcome to Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University! Alright, since I have had the day off from classes, I thought I would take some pictures of the hall and let everyone see where I am living and studying. So here is a brief tour. More from Oxford later probably, as I see new and cool things. These are just pictures from my college in Oxford. Well, it is having trouble putting in the pictures of my room, so you will have to use your imagination for now. Ke...

Anglican + Calvinist: December 2005
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Saturday, December 24, 2005. Tom Wright and Scripture: part II. The Hebrew people loved to tell stories. The Hebrew Scriptures is nothing other than the collection of the great tradition of story telling which the people of God were involved in. But stories were not the same to the Hebrews as they are to us today. Most of us see stories as nice anecdotes or something you tell to kids before they go to sleep. No one takes them seriously though. 2 The Enlightenment bequeathed to us th...

Anglican + Calvinist: October 2005
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Saturday, October 29, 2005. What does Gregory of Nyssa have to do with preaching today? So expository preaching is fine. I mean it is great to sit through an hour long sermon on Song of Songs chapter 4 and feel like you can atomize the whole thing to a person walking down Broad Street, but is it really that benificial? I feel like the pastors should be wearing WWBRP (what would Bertran Russell preach) braclets. How should we preach? The Life of Moses. We can only say what God is not...

Anglican + Calvinist: April 2006
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Sunday, April 30, 2006. Evolution and Calvin: A Speculation (but what isn't? I have been reading the amazing book by Michael Polanyi, a distinguished chemist and philosopher, called. And came across this very interesting passage on the evolution of man:. The story of the Fall presents a strangely apt symbol of this event. For as one part of the body took over procreation and the animal ceased to survive in its progeny, lust. And death were jointly invented. Forasmuchas our Lord give...

Anglican + Calvinist: March 2006
http://anglicancalvinist.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Are you a "real man"? Sunday, March 05, 2006. Social Contract or Covenant Community? Introductory Comment: I am not a political theorist. I want to be up front about that as this post will have some political theory discussion in it and I am no expert in that area at all. So although I think there is some truth to the following statements (maybe a good deal of it! Social contract seems to me to be set almost on entirely selfish principles. To give it a rough definition, social contract is the "deal" ...

myprayersthoughtsandponderings | meditations through the year
Meditations through the year. April 1, 2018. Oh it’s a good one. You’d expect it to be, David wrote it after he just had a very narrow escape so it’s a thank you poem. And a great one, because he was very close to death, one wrong move and it would have been curtains for him. It’s the stuff of relief and gratitude and love too. So many beautiful and familiar lines, but my favourite is verse 8: O taste and see that the Lord is good! Really, ALL of them? Well, when you’ve just escaped death then you’re not...
