Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: May 2014
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Thursday, 1 May 2014. One of the unseen problems of car building is installing the supporting tools and work space needed, this post shows some of these, (just to show I am busy). Clear a space of junk, paint, install electrics, benches, shelves and a lathe. Clear a bigger space of junk, repair leaking roof, paint, install electrics, benches, shelves and fan extract. This will be used for lighter work and is warmer. Also new welding bench with fume extraction, ( I have asthma).

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Monday, 16 March 2015. The body will come off soon for painting (must decide on colour) so must make a simple trolly to assist in moving it. First a design. Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: May 2015
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Saturday, 16 May 2015. Before the engine can be test-run, a few jobs need to be carried out, first re-position the dry sump breather tank so as not to get in the way of the bonnet hinge. Fit and connect battery, fuel system, accelerator pedal and a few simple controls and lights. Wrap catalytic converters to avoid heat from exothermic reaction discolouring the silencers. Add fibre sound reducers. Had to add a heat shield to protect the brake line from exhaust heat.

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: December 2014
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Saturday, 6 December 2014. IVA requires the exhaust sound level not to exceed 99 dBa at 500mm at 2/3 max power, (must check that). The sidepipes I have require extra sound deadening to meet the IVA level, so I am trying a combination of methods taken from other builders. This design relies on baffles and sound absorbing material, but other than that, is completly unscientific. Finished off with all stainless lock nuts. Easy to remove, so if they don't work can be replaced. Fitte...

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: March 2013
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Saturday, 30 March 2013. First Thoughts on Colour. The second question everybody asks is 'what colour will it be? The first is 'when will it be finished? Many Cobras are the traditional blue often with a white stripe, but many newer cobras are being finished with more modern colours. Backdraft Racing in the USA are very good at this, I think. I particulary liked their silver grey with white and red stripes. (sorry about the quality). Sunday, 3 March 2013. First Thoughts on Colour.

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: May 2013
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Wednesday, 1 May 2013. The defining feature of the Cobra, (other than the 427cu in engine) are the exhaust sidepipes. These have now arrived, courtsey of DB Replicas;. The complete pipe is on the right, this breaks down into three parts. As on the left. The quad pipes will connect to a 4 into one collector (shown here as a coil of wire), then to a flex, bend, reducer then the 3 bolt flange that bolts to the manifold. The M18 threaded bush is for the lambda probe.

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: Battery box
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2015/03/battery-box.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Monday, 2 March 2015. The normal place for the battery on the GD427 is just behind the front wheel arch, but because the side exhausts pass through this space, I will put the battery in the boot. The battery wieghs about 11 Kg so will need a base to sit on to spread the load. I will also reinforce the boot floor with a 25mm square tube. The battery will be enclosed in a box, I am not too keen on MDF but it is easy to work. Painting, not easy with MDF. The Other Exhaust Collector.

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: An explanation....
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2010/09/explanation.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Monday, 7 November 2016. Welcome to my Blog, describing my ongoing build of a Gardner Douglas 427 Mk 4 Euro. There are two reasons for this Blog, the first is the considerable help and information I have got from other GD427 build sites, therefore I would like to try and be of use to other builders. I did not have any idea of what to build (or renovate) until I saw the John Woolfe 427 Cobra, this would be what I would build. This car was produced 50 years. The Blog describes pro...

Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build.: Centre Console
http://paulsgd427cobra.blogspot.com/2015/04/centre-console.html
Paul's GD427 Mk IV Build. Thursday, 2 April 2015. I wanted a slightly retro looking centre console to match the dashboard style. this was the first design (before painting), but didn't like it. Second try, console is longer. It's OK, but still not quite right, maybe better when painted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Body - Chassis Separation. View my complete profile.
