These start at F01 for William Preene. And his wife Catherine in Hope Bowdler in the 1570s, their descendants and - as the recent study of court rolls for the manor of Hope Bowdler provides more information - their ancestors. This family died out in the late 1600s. The next family, F02, related to Philip Preen. The John Preen from Rushbury, who moved to Chalfont St Giles and created the Amersham family, who were originally F14 but have now been re-numbered as F07. And his wife Jane. And his wife Elizabeth.

Bridgnorth in Shropshire exists to guard the bridge over the river Severn. Originally the castle was built on top of the cliffs to the west (left in the picture) of the bridge and the High Town grew up around the castle. The Low Town was built on the east bank of the river Severn looking across the river to the castle and High Town. The earliest records we have relating to the PREENE family show them living in the Low Town and many of them worked as tanners or leather-workers.

Books produced by the Preen Family Study Group. A DNA-study of the family has shown that there are three main groups, each group tracing descent from a common ancestor in the seventeenth century. Before that, they probably originated in the Parish of CHURCH PREEN near Much Wenlock in Shropshire. Our histories of the family, now that we have too much information to get it all into a single volume, are divided according to these groups. VOLUME TWO: THE CARDINGTON GROUP 1660-1911. The Kings Stanley Group. The KINGS STANLEY PREENS started with family F20 as the descendants of John Preen. Who appeared there in the 1660s. Family F21, started with the arrival of Stephen Preen. In Tetbury in 1680 and his descendants are also included. Who moved to Maisemore around 1770 and his descendants in Maisemore and adjoining parishes appear as Family F22. Family F23 refers to John's descendant Thomas Preen. Born 1758) and his large family. And his descendants form family F25.
