Squibs: Season Two: Kindergarten Inclusion Party
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2014/06/kindergarten-inclusion-party.html
Thursday, June 19, 2014. Something's been grating on my nerves lately. It's a phenomenon I've noticed thanks to the age of my daughter and the friends she's brought into my life via social media. I've waited to talk about it, because I've needed to ponder it a bit. And, frankly, I'm still not sure I'm at any sort of conclusion. But in an attempt to process my volatile emotional reaction to the situation, I'll talk about it here. I'm not sick of the parents. I'm not offended by the posts. It yacks me out.

Squibs: Season Two: Gemiini Program Update: Week One
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2015/04/gemiini-program-update-week-one.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Gemiini Program Update: Week One. We are currently using the Gemiini program. In our home in an attempt to increase Jace's communication skills. We are receiving our monthly subscription at a reduced rate in exchange for sharing about our experience with the product on the blog. All opinions and reflections are my own and are not provided or influenced by Gemiini systems. Week one consisted of forty (give or take) viewings of a video in which he was repeatedly exposed to the vo...

Squibs: Season Two: What Fuels the Helicopter?
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2013/10/what-fuels-helicopter.html
Wednesday, October 16, 2013. What Fuels the Helicopter? Recently, I've been fielding a few emails from parents who are faced with the task of writing their child's first IEP or working to make revisions to an existing one. We're actually just finishing up with some revisions to LC's IEP, so it must be the season. Parents understand that being perceived as hyper-vigilant "helicopters" can be a kiss of death when it comes to being dismissed by a team of educational professionals. But you know what? Not onc...

Squibs: Season Two: Homemade Monday: Feeding Kit
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2010/04/homemade-monday-feeding-kit.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. Homemade Monday: Feeding Kit. Every Friday, LC has 45 minutes of feeding therapy. Technically, it's therapy to improve her drinking skills. And, really, by Friday you'd think she could just watch what I'm doing around 7:00 pm to get all the modeling she needs. But we go, nonetheless. Even if your squirt doesn't have feeding issues. Here are some of the tools we use in our feeding therapy exercises. We also use the washcloth for muscle strengthening. We put a corner of the clot...

Squibs: Season Two: Sharing the Sad Stuff...
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2015/05/sharing-sad-stuff.html
Friday, May 1, 2015. Sharing the Sad Stuff. When it comes to sharing about my extra-chromosomed squibs, I admit to often withholding about episodes that make my stomach hurt. I obviously experience them. They obviously experience them. But I've always wanted this blog to be a celebration of who they are and what they bring to the corner of the world they were sent to terrorize. So, with my apologies for its delay, here is one such story that really demands to be shared. I squeezed her into that leotard&#...

Squibs: Season Two: Purposeful Play: OT'ing It
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2013/03/purposeful-play-oting-it_18.html
Monday, March 18, 2013. Purposeful Play: OT'ing It. Some peeks into how we're applying the advice and suggestions from the squibs' therapists into our daily play at home. It's water. In a bowl. And big brushes. They were completely enthralled. Lots of bending and reaching. Throw in a couch cushion to work on some balancing skills. That's the name of our tennis ball. Miss Munch. This is one of Biggie's absolute favorites. Weird, since he's usually rather tormented by the idea of puppets in general. So, pu...

Squibs: Season Two: LWA: The Communication Quest
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2015/04/lwa-communication-quest.html
Wednesday, April 8, 2015. LWA: The Communication Quest. Both LC and Jace struggle with weaknesses in the area of communication. His current methods of communication are as follows:. 1 Quiet: I'm content with what's happening. 2 Moaning: I'm probably content but feel like being loud as well. 3 Touching and staring at Mom or Dad's hand: Hand, I have a job for you. Come along and I'll show you what to get for me. 4 Fall to the floor: I don't want to do what you're suggesting. If too many orange Froot Loops ...

Squibs: Season Two: Do a Little More
http://pudgeandzippy.blogspot.com/2014/02/do-little-more.html
Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Do a Little More. I love everything about the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign. I'd like to advocate against the use of the words "retard" or "retarded". But everyone who reads this blog is already connected to the special needs community somehow. And probably doesn't need a whole lot of convincing not to throw those words around. There's also a little nagging thought that crawled into my head a few months ago and it just won't go away. I appreciate that you're not S...
