Thursday, 17 December 2009. Not all carvings go the way we hope. Some carvings we wish would be struck by lightning and reduced to a pile of ash. This one is definitely one I'm not proud of and didn't especially enjoy working on either. Day two and I had it all to do, and I hate working under any kind of pressure. Having due to necessity diverted from the original design that I had made I quickly sketched a new design that I felt would be easier to carve in the time I had left. Links to this post.

Monday, 1 February 2010. This little fellow was done a few months ago. I meant to include hime here before. I suppose I thought I must have done so already. Ah well. Here can be demonstrated how brazing a piece can actually breathe some life into it. Like my tiger cub (see older posts) he was made from Douglas fir. I was given an open brief and so, like the tiger, I decided to make orange animals as Douglas eventually settles into a deep orangy hue. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Friday, 30 October 2009. Otter baby; big in Japan! I carved this baby otter with a view to making something in a 'cartoony' style. I was actually thinking of Japanese Manga style when I was carving, which I find infinitely cuter than offerings by Disney. Sunday, 13 June 2010. This was a commissioned piece. It's made of Welsh Oak. The dog is integral to the seat plank; this was done by running the saw mill up to a point and then withdrawing it, leaving a remaining piece of timber to be carved.
