beehomesoon: HIVE NOTES
http://www.beehomesoon.com/p/hive-notes.html
The bees were out taking cleansing flights today, and looking for a little melting snow to lap up. I don't believe I have seen any flights since December sometime. Now if we can just get through the rest of this winter. In one week it will be March. I have ordered a new package of bees for April. So IF these girls survive I will be starting with two colonies in the spring. But a northern wintered-over queen is the best. Here is one girl getting a drink, I guess, on the snow. beehomesoon: The Most Popular Corner of the House
http://www.beehomesoon.com/2013/11/the-most-popular-corner-of-house.html
Tuesday, November 19, 2013. The Most Popular Corner of the House. I spend a LOT of time right here working at the island. But the payoff is that I get to sit here in my own personal cafe and enjoy a fire and a nice view while reading a good novel or cookbook. The wallpaper is Pierre Deux. Upholstery is my doing. Move as well as supporting structure below the floor and in the ceiling/roof above this section of the house. Crabapple tiles from Stillwater porcelain. Which I also used over the range. Overhang...

beehomesoon: a lull in january
http://www.beehomesoon.com/2013/01/a-lull-in-january.html
Monday, January 14, 2013. A lull in january. So it is also a good day to go through the camera and download a few stray photos from a little earlier. The first set of photos here are from my last close up check on the bees in late November- followed by what I found today. Trekking down the hill in my chicken boots. They keep. The bees out, too. With smoker, pail of tools, and a spacer frame. That pen is where I keep chicks on warm days just after. Prying off the feeder carefully. It is made of. Swarms la...

beehomesoon: Brimfield Score for the Queen Bee
http://www.beehomesoon.com/2014/10/brimfield-score-for-queen-bee.html
Friday, October 17, 2014. Brimfield Score for the Queen Bee. It is very heavy, so it is hung with 4 large bolts in each corner. J gets me, so he found some rusty, funky old bolts-just right. I love my handy man. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Look at these blogs! Dreaming of Beautiful Chickens. Chickens come in sooooo many beautiful colors and shapes. http://www.beehomesoon.com/2014/12/ice-glazed-morning.html
Wednesday, December 3, 2014. I have a goal to work on my photography skills during December. I have downloaded the manual for my CanonEOS 40D and plan to review (or read for the first time) how to make some better shots. So, dear readers, look for at least one new photo a day for December. And since I am beginning on December 3rd- three photos today. Last night. Ice storm. And these images from this morning. Labels: New England 101. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). beehomesoon: Painting Wood Floors and my Brilliant new hallway and master bedroom
http://www.beehomesoon.com/2013/11/painting-wood-floors-and-my-brilliant.html
Monday, November 11, 2013. Painting Wood Floors and my Brilliant new hallway and master bedroom. The hallway, both up and downstairs, has a beautiful curved wall. The distressing is intentionally more dramatic at places where there is normally more wear. The paint is Behr floor and deck paint. I did not top coat it with any polyurethane. I will let it wear naturally through. Though I intend to put some rugs in soon as it is getting cold out. Graceful transition at the hall doorway. I enjoy the imperfecti...

RSS feed for this section. Cape Cod Year Four. The days blurred together on the Cape, one stifling afternoon after another. We walked through soup air, dripping sweat on our coverups. It’s so hot. We said, our brains gone dead with the temperature. The bay was cooler, with a breeze. We set our chairs out by the water, letting our toes dip into the bathtub before us. The water’s so warm. We said, our brains gone dad with the temperature. We went to the water. The days were the same. We piled our coolers f...
