This camera was manufactured in England by APM (Amalgamated Photographic Manufacturers). A company founded in 1921 and ended in around 1929. The company was the result of a merger of several british camera manufacturers, just like the merger of several companies to form Zeiss-Ikon that happened in Germany. I am not sure, but it seems that the real manufacturer behind this APeM presscamera is Thornton-Pickard.

Among the pictures below is one of the several pictures recovered from a 120 sized rollfilm found in the rollfilmback. This one is the only one where someone was posing that was not fogged too badly. If you recognise yourself or know who is the man in this picture, please let me know about it.

Magnesium flash

This is an old magnesium flash, maker unknown. It's operation is very simple. First wind the knob a couple of turns, then place the flashpowder into the holder and then press the trigger. As you press the trigger the flintwheel seen in the second picture emits sparks and ignites the powder.

These links take you to various articles relating to using press cameras. I use "Speed Graphic". As a generic term for the classic press camera. Which, by the way, is a derivative of the Folding Bicycle Camera of the late 1800's. My own camera is actually a Graflex Pacemaker Crown Graphic 45. The cheaper, lighter, sans focalplane shutter sibling of the renowned Speed Graphic. It was manufactured in about 1952. Which is in my way of thinking the one of the best description of them.
