Pressed in a Book. Working my way through my overflowing bookshelves, one page at a time. Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Goodbye, Maurice Sendak. This morning I lie in bed after my alarm went off and scrolled through Twitter before getting up. It was just a string of book industry posts: Maurice Sendak Dead at 83, Maurice Sendak Dead at 83, Maurice Sendak Dead at 83. The Light Princess, The Golden Key, The Juniper Tree, The Animal Family. Mr Rabbit and the Lovely Present. All illustrated by Sendak. Over and over&...

Pressed in a Book: October 2011

http://pressedbook.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Pressed in a Book. Working my way through my overflowing bookshelves, one page at a time. Friday, October 14, 2011. We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I put off reading Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle. However many years ago I read it, and after receiving a copy of the freaking gorgeous Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition (pictured directly below), I was even more convinced it had to be great. Yeah, I totally judge books by their covers. Do we even want them to? Do they deserve it?

For this installment I'll be giving away a hardcover copy of Angel Burn. By L A. Robin Has An Idea: October 2014

http://www.robinhasanidea.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Robin Has An Idea. Thursday, October 23, 2014. The blog has been quieter this year. The house hasn't stayed as clean as I'd like. I've not done as much baking. The only reading has been the news and an article here and there. Travel and family visits have taken up a lot of time. The normal day to day has filled the space between all the rest. That was the other part of the problem when you would have found me sulking in this chair- I was chasing the wrong kind of dream. In TJ Maxx recently, my main goal ...

http://www.robinhasanidea.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Robin Has An Idea. Monday, May 19, 2014. A new way to connect. In January, I was asked if I'd like to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) once a week along with a teaching partner at Mommy and Me Family Literacy. A group that works with refugee women and their children. I was excited. We were to teach an abridged version of The Scarlet Letter,. Which is one of my favorites, and some U.S. history and government. We were provided with an excellent first lesson plan and hoped for the best. I can't spea...

Robin Has An Idea: Why I cried over Robin Williams

http://www.robinhasanidea.com/2014/08/why-i-cried-over-robin-williams.html

Robin Has An Idea. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Why I cried over Robin Williams. I grew up watching loads of television and movies. The Huxtables, the Simpsons, and the Keatons: my extended family. Do you know how much I cried when Alex's friend died on Family Ties. Or how often I hid in the back room of the house to listen to The Simpsons Sing the Blues. On cassette and wondered what it might feel like to say all those bad things myself? Will their kids become actors too? Will they get through the rough ...

Robin Has An Idea: July 2014

http://www.robinhasanidea.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Robin Has An Idea. Wednesday, July 2, 2014. About a year ago, I wrote this: Surviving end-of-term grading. Over the past few days, as happens at the end of most every term, I've been in the same predicament with the same kinds of struggles. On days like that, the only thing you can do to get through it is get through it. But it doesn't hurt to do a vigorous working out first. Sure does relieve stress. With unconventionally beautiful actors playing key roles. Or put on an 80s classic. With these dependabl...

Pressed Between The Pages

Thursday, March 29, 2018. Commonwealth by Ann Pachett. Ann Patchett calls this novel her autobiographical first novel. She wrote it in 2016 at age 52. She consulted her family before publishing it and claims most of the things in Commonwealth didn't happen but the feelings are close to home. The book looks at the new American family and how children come together then move apart. It also gives the reader a view of the aging parent and how the child has a new role in the family. From the kid's menu:.

News - Pressed Between the Pages zine by Alan Lastufka

11-24-06: Pressed Between the Pages #2 now available! Pressed Between the Pages #2 has been sitting around as a flat for two months now. As of today I finally have copies of it available. I changed formats this time around, opting for a quarter-sized layout over the half-size/digest layout I did for the first issue. Also, there's no poetry this time, but there are new zine reviews, something not included in the first issue. Check out some EXCERPTS. This zine is well worth seeking out for these two poems ...

The Pressed Blog – on the level

A nice little reminder about adjectives. Adjectives in English absolutely have to be in this order: opinion-size-age-colour-origin-material-purpose-Noun. So you can have a lovely little old rectangular green French silver whittling knife. But if you mess with that word order in the slightest you’ll sound like a maniac. – Mark Forsyth, The Elements of Eloquence: How to Turn the Perfect English Phrase […]. Who owns your home page?
