Always on a war footing . Wednesday, August 24, 2005. To misappropriate a quote from michael stipe: "congratulate me.". The agony is over. The ship has come in. It's raining pennies from heaven. I am coming back to life. I have. a. mother. fucking. job. But i'm thrilled about it because i'm just that weird. As many of you are aware, i have been working for the past week at the record store that shall remain nameless - for $6.50 an hour. it's ok work, the people are great, but it's retail. There's a lot o...

The Frisky Biscuit: the sound that's made by worms
http://thefriskybiscuit.blogspot.com/2007/06/sound-thats-made-by-worms.html
Wednesday, June 06, 2007. The sound that's made by worms. It can’t be helped. Someone has to tell this story, and it might as well be me. A few weeks ago, Natasha and I were in. Visiting our parents. Natasha was expecting a most peculiar delivery and had asked her friend to check in on things. He was told what would be in the package, but somehow no amount of preparation could prepare for this arrival. But wait, there's more! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Anna: the hot tamale. The Frisky Biscuit: Meet Cute
http://thefriskybiscuit.blogspot.com/2007/05/meet-cute.html
Tuesday, May 01, 2007. Is everyone tired of seeing that sinister jar of figs at the top of this page? Rightly so. Almost daily I’ve thought I should try and post something, but the Creative Inspiration Level is currently running low. I have a lot going on right now, and just the idea. Of writing wearies me even more. I have to find an apartment and move by June 30. Then there is this: my sister just interviewed for a big time job at Cornell. Is anything ever going to happen for me? For a change, there wa...

Abandoned Baton Rouge: Gone With the Sinned: Swaggart Bible College Dorm
http://abandonedbatonrouge.typepad.com/abandoned_baton_rouge/2008/03/gone-with-the-s.html
Laquo; Downtown- you'll find a place for sure. Three Sisters ladies' shoppe ». March 02, 2008. Gone With the Sinned: Swaggart Bible College Dorm. The HQ for Jimmy Swaggart Ministries is in Baton Rouge. However, not all the buildings on its campus are. This never-completed dorm for the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College has a fence around it, so because I am a law-abiding citizen, these like, other guys named Cosh and Jo supplied me with photos. The unfinished dorm rooms have robotic faces. Also from the roof:.

Yankee Librarian: November 2013
http://yankeelibrarian.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
I'm a Yankee. I'm a librarian. I left the Deep South for the Pacifical Northwest. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. They have flees. Actually, I think I have more bites than them. They barely seem to notice. The vet thinks that we caught them early. She gave them medicine and sent me home with some carpet spray. And now I am very aware of the itchy bumps on my ankles. I blame the sketchy downtown petstore. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. Links to this post. Sunday, November 24, 2013. This is what happened. But dec...

Life as a Chick and a Drummer. On Harmonicas and Guitars. January 17, 2009 in chicago. Life in a band. We welcomed two new additions to the Short Punks family (and no, not kids — you wish): a harmonica player and a Gretsch. The harmonica player is named Bob Kessler, formerly of Bakelite 78. Bob Kessler, harmonica player extraordinaire. Our next show is on January 24 at the The Bottom Lounge in Chicago, and Brian and I are excited to continue to explore how our sound changes with a harmonica player. The G...

Life as a Chick and a Drummer. Recording at Home the Short Punks Way, pt 1. February 15, 2009 in drums. Life in a band. It’s only now, in my forties, having exhausted a life of constant change and movement that I see the value of just sitting still on the drum throne and tapping a constant beat, something even and consistent, undramatic. Calm. Brian and Bob do overdubs. For more about the band, go to: www.shortpunksinlove.com. Subscribe in a reader. Beyond the Drumset: The Mind-Life Conference, part 3.

Life as a Chick and a Drummer. Hate Touring, Love Having Toured. June 21, 2009 in drums. Six Things I Learned at My First Out-of-Town Show. 2 Bring a flashlight. The show which was scheduled at Escape Java Joint ended up being an outdoor show, because the cafe itself was being remodeled. When we pulled up in front of the cafe we were greeted with a huge sign that said: “Closed for Remodeling.” Huh, we thought. Aren’t we supposed to play here? Hermes greets us at Escape Java Joint. 3 Bring bug spray.

The Frisky Biscuit: April 2007
http://thefriskybiscuit.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 04, 2007. Imagine you have this jar lurking in your kitchen cupboard. After the visual shock wears off and you remember they are figs from your uncle, it's time to decide what to do. Here are the options:. 1 When moving house in the next couple of months, pack up with other items of questionable need. Continue to store, chiefly with hopes someone will unwittingly discover the jar of figs and think you are a weirdo. If this happens you will be secretly delighted and encouraged. I fully ex...
