Primary Mathematics

Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Fraction is a part of a whole number. Imagine if a cake is considered a whole, when the cake is cut into 2 pieces , one of the pieces is considered 1 out of 2 , which is written as 1/2 . If we cut further to 4 pieces of cakes, each pieces will be 1 out of 4 , or written as 1/4 . Now , when we perform an addition, 1/2 1/2 for example, the first thing to do is to make the number at the bottom equal (denominator) before summation. For example 1/2 1/2 = 2/2 = 1. 2/5 1/5 = 3/5.
