Alabaster Mom: September 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2014. I have to say that the visit was at once harrowing and informative. The orthodontist showed me a plaster cast of my daughter's mouth. I wish I had taken a photo of it. All I could think of was that old joke about "summer teeth." Summer here, summer there. Dr M told me that although he previously thought braces were a possibility, he could confirm that they are now a definite. The next eighteen months sound super fun:. Head gear for 12 hours a day. Alabaster Mom: November 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. Are you happy, Aunt Claudia? I spent the evening with my three-year-old nephew yesterday. It was my brother-in-law's birthday and he and my sister had dinner reservations. So, I decided to take my nephew out while they were dining. At first, he wasn't too keen on leaving the house with me. I knew he'd be fine once we got on the road, though. Are you doing okay back there? I asked him once we were a mile from home. It's not," he replied and gave me a little scowl. We then headed...

Alabaster Mom: July 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 31, 2014. While she was in the class, I wandered around the store, talked on the phone, and then signed the kid up for another class in August. This one does require the use of a sewing machine. Two-toned pillowcase, here we come! I am hoping she will start to use her sewing machine and start creating stuff on her own. She and I have been watching Project Runway together and who knows, maybe she'll be on there someday! And I betcha Tim Gunn will look exactly the same in 15 years, too.

My constant reminder to enjoy and cherish the ages and stages of our children. Thursday, April 10, 2014. Glad we have that all cleared up. I get up to go find the source of the footsteps and again find a fast-stepping, tummy-rubbing, confused Laura. I asked her what she's up for. Stepping. Rubbing. I say, "how about you go potty, and you can tell me while you're in there." I carry her to the bathroom. She looks at the toilet, pulls down her jammies, and starts to sit down. "No! My constant reminder to enjoy and cherish the ages and stages of our children. Friday, January 10, 2014. Slide, slided, slode. Child of mine: Did you see how far I just slided? Me: Yes, I did. It was a good one! I don't think slided is a word. How about. Child of mine: Oh, yeah. Slode. Um, no. Slode is not a word. How about slid? Child of mine: I'm sure I've heard slode before. Me: Yes, but it's slowed, as in "I slowed down when I was going too fast.". Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

My constant reminder to enjoy and cherish the ages and stages of our children. Friday, February 14, 2014. Passed on to another generation. This past fall, I saw her at the same craft fair where she was selling her newest book. Still excited by the fact that she's writing books, I quickly bought the newest one to give to the kids for Christmas. Then I found out that she'd be doing a book reading at our library a couple of weeks before Christmas. My kids were going to get to hear her read her new book!

Cherish These Days: Blizzard hail
http://cherishthesedays.blogspot.com/2014/02/blizzard-hail.html
My constant reminder to enjoy and cherish the ages and stages of our children. Thursday, February 20, 2014. Today, we're in a blizzard warning. It had been a blizzard watch, then a winter storm warning, then a blizzard warning. But, while we waited for the blizzard part to show up, we had a good ol' thunderstorm. In February. In Iowa. With hail. Lots and lots and lots of hail. You can click on this picture to see it a little larger.). For now, our rain is done, our thunder and lightning are done, our hai...

Alabaster Mom: December 2014
http://alabastermom.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. These shoes are made for . . . loping along. I've never been much of a runner. Remember the physical fitness testing in school? Do they still do that? I remember having to do the flexed arm hang, shuttle run, 50-yard dash, and 600-yard dash. I can't remember what else. Sit-ups, maybe? I remember doing okay on the 50-yard dash, and even the flexed arm hang. The 600-yard dash, though? I have just never been much of a distance runner. So, why persist with the running then? We did...
