The above images are of stand alone sundials and sundial bases, which reflect the notion of the solar system. These designs would have the readable part of a sundial incorporated into them, either as, the sculpture becoming a large gnomon with ground level hour makers, or as bases with a measurement plates and integral gnomon. The largest size acrylic dome is 1200mm Diameter and I would use this for the base of the Sun sphere and Jupiter, more volume would be added to Sun sphere to give an impression of the scale and relationship to its neighbours. Each sphere would be cast in a white coloured concrete mix using suitable aggregates plus reinforcements, some would be rendered using a mixture of white concrete, various aggregates and colouring to give each sphere a unique colour and texture. Spheres could be smooth and others textured, reflecting the nature of each planet in the solar system. In the case of Jupiter and its rings, a suitable metal material would be used to simulate them and be fixed to the sphere and made secure. Create a free website.

I purpose to use commercially available acrylic domes (up to 1200mm diameter) as moulds to cast in reinforce concrete mixture or fondue. Each sphere would be made in two haves and join together using a fixing material. A rod, could be cast into each sphere to act as an anchor and fixed into the ground, this would also be an anti theft precaution. It would be my intention to give the spheres a timeless standing stone like quality and so the cement mixes would be tinted colours, rough and stone like.
