Urban Farm Girl

Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Three summers later - a very large zucchini for stuffing! The past two summers my friend, Lara, and I had a very iron clad system. I would cry about how inadequate my zucchini were for stuffing and she would bring giganormous zucchini with the unspoken understanding that I would stuff them and share. Well, now it appears that I can grow them successfully in the front! Lara, if you are reading this.do not panic! I will continue to make you stuffed zucchini. White cherry tomato bush.

Wednesday, May 2, 2012. The First Growing Season. Yet another participant in my urban landscape project was our previous neighbor, Jagger. He gave me a bag of organic root stabilizer that worked wonders. He also donated a huge 5 gallon barrel of organic kelp tea, but I have yet to use that. Winter Transplants for West Side of Yard. They grew so quickly! End of Fall Harvest. The Cabbage was Enormous! Fall Transplants for East Yard. Transplants North East Yard. Design for Texture and Color. We had to work ...

Urban Farm Girl: I spy....

http://projecturbanfarm.blogspot.com/2012/06/i-spy.html

Tuesday, June 5, 2012. So, it's been about three weeks since my last post. It is really incredible how a little heat - well, a lot of heat promotes significant growth. I thought it might be fun to track the progress of certain veggies - hence, the "I spy." title. I am still debating on a name for the "farm." Yes, a name! We chatted a bit and I offered a bit of advice in regards to maintaining an organic growing area. Here is our latest bounty which proves that it is absolutely possible to establish a...

Urban Farm Girl: Spring Fever

http://projecturbanfarm.blogspot.com/2012/05/spring-fever.html

Sunday, May 13, 2012. As promised, I have photos of our vermicomposting bin! Our box is made of cedar fence planks and a plywood cover. The hardware was purchased at Habitat for Humanity. The box sits on a concrete block base to allow for ventilation and drainage. Each box has wire hard cloth stapled for the bottom. If you are interested in the construction, leave a comment and I will post photos of the construction process. We have volunteer sunflowers that are of the Mammoth variety. I love the shape o...

New Adventures.New Inspirations. This crazy year is flying by! I have so much to share, but pictures are more fun :) I recently participated in the Pasadena Bead and Design Show at the end of July. I had so much fun! My neighbor Mavis Leahy was a blast and so sweet to me. She kept giving me little bits of treasure as gifts. Check out what have been busy making with these amazing antique steel cut itty bitty seed beads she bestowed upon me. Here are the amazing French brass charlottes courtesy of Mavis :).

Crystal Basica: November 2012

http://crystalbasica.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Handmade for the Holidays. As much as I don't want to admit it, the holiday season is upon us! I would like to say I am taking some time off after Glitterfest, but it simply isn't true. I have several shows coming up between now and the end of the year, so it's been back to work for me! At Erin, Beadology's Owner's request, I brought down all of my vintage and mixed media pieces and parts so that her customers can create their own versions of Melanie's incredible designs. We had a blast :). It's so much ...

Crystal Basica: October 2012

http://crystalbasica.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

It's that time again! It's finally Fall, my favorite time of year. The weather has finally cooled down and there is that crispness in the air. That means it's. Time for Glitterfest again! I've kept busy with so many trunk shows in September, this time Glitterfest seemed to sneak up on me! I have been locked in my studio for the last few weeks creating all sort of new goodies for this Saturday. I have kept busy with several new art pieces. This little creepy guy is coming. Hope to see you this weekend!
