Saturday, August 08, 2015. RS Aero Capsizes - Mission Accomplished. It was getting to be a bit weird. Prior to the RS Aero North Americans in Oregon a couple of weeks ago I had sailed an RS Aero about 18-20 times, but I had never had an unintentional capsize. I had done some deliberate capsizes in order to make sure I knew how to do capsize recoveries. But in all those days of sailing the RS Aero I had not capsized accidentally once. My streak had to end some time. Even so I wondered how easy capsize rec...

Proper Course: Tiller Extensions on the Beach

http://propercourse.blogspot.com/2013/08/tiller-extensions-on-beach.html

Monday, August 12, 2013. Tiller Extensions on the Beach. The three oldest tiller extensions are at the beach this week. We will be joining them for a couple of days later in the week. Why do human beings like the beach so much? 2:01 PM, August 12, 2013. Im not sure that I buy into all of your great spiritual entity theory Genie, but there is something very compelling (at least to me) about images of people looking out to sea. What are they looking at? What are they thinking? 6:01 PM, August 12, 2013.

Proper Course: How to Tack a Laser Like a Champion

http://propercourse.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-tack-laser-like-champion.html

Monday, June 29, 2009. How to Tack a Laser Like a Champion. It seems to have been hijacked. ". Well you only have yourselves to blame. In that poll last November I gave you a chance to vote for what you wanted this blog to be about. The old warrior Sailing. Was soundly defeated by the candidate of change who promised a policy of allowing Tillerman to write about Whatever The Hell He Wants. So you can't complain now. You voted for it and now you're going to get four years of Whatever The Hell He Wants.

Proper Course: Bottleport

http://propercourse.blogspot.com/2008/10/bottleport.html

Sunday, October 19, 2008. Greg Little, the author of today's Bucket List post. Is the inventor of the Bottleport. Having experimented for 25 years with various other homemade solutions for carrying a water bottle on a Laser I was immediately attracted to the elegance of this solution. Greg sent me a prototype, and my son and I tested it out on our sails on the last couple of weekends. What can I say? It works exactly as advertised. No problems whatsoever. Check out the Bottleport. Regarding the aft locat...

Proper Course: Random Thoughts on the Number Ninety Four

http://propercourse.blogspot.com/2008/12/random-thoughts-on-number-ninety-four.html

Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Random Thoughts on the Number Ninety Four. It's the last day of the year and as I look out of my office window at another big snow storm with a gale warning in effect this afternoon, it's pretty clear that there will be no more sailing for me in 2008. So I failed to make my target of 100 days of Laser sailing in the year. I only made it to 94. I learned that when you set yourself a target it can become an end in its own right, sometimes to the detriment of the underlying rea...

Wednesday, August 17, 2016. I Love RS Aero Sailors. What do you do when the downwind race is actually upwind? That was the dilemma facing the race committee last Friday at the RS Aero US Nationals in the Columbia River Gorge. Prior to the real regatta for the national championship at the weekend, Friday had been scheduled for a long downwind race - a shorter version of the famous Laser Gorge Blowout. Oops - I see the photographer snapped me on the way in. (See top of post.). 1 RS Aero Rides for Kids.

EVK4 SuperBlog: Run Forrest Run!

http://evk4.blogspot.com/2012/03/run-forrest-run.html

Through some absolute fluke of good timing and preparation, we were second in line to enter Disneyland last Tuesday. We had secured the spot over on the far right behind a couple of heavier ladies (yes, this is pertinent). When I get into Disneyland I like to savor the moment.we are at Disneyland! You know, like that. I was trailing behind, fumbling with my camera, yelling his name to stop and pose for a picture. He was the first one down Main Street! He ignored me; he had places to go. That's the kids n...

Earth, Wind and Water. Ramblings of an Earthling, Laserite and small boat sailor. Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Have you named your boat? Of Chicago Illinois, which, as you might guess, specializes in safety signs. Even though it was a custom job, they charged me only around six bucks for this decal. I was a little surprised when I went to two regattas last summer with around 30 Lasers entered in each, that on both occasions, I was one of only two sailors who'd name their boats. Why is this? One of the things I...

Earth, Wind and Water. Ramblings of an Earthling, Laserite and small boat sailor. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Never jury rig something so well that you forget it's broken. I really wanted to go sailing. So, I thought about it for a minute or two, and then pumped up the tire and wedged a little stick in between the rim and the valve stem. I didn't have to use the pump again at the Lake, because much to my surprise, when I got there, the stick was still in place. It stayed that way for months. You are an...

Some bright Aussie spark has come up with this WOMBAT (Waste of Money, Brains, and Time), that's right folks, the foiling Laser! Everyone knows this beast won't beat on the foils, so don't. Just sail on a beam reach, and work the shifts for all they're worth until you eventually get there. You'll have the worst VMG in your club, but the best boat speed". Down under in t...
