PropGen's underlying CFD engine was substantially completed many years ago as a component of my graduate work in Aerospace Engineering. I extended the original work to to handle any propeller like object such as wind turbines, allow more optimization features. and a few other features. I hope, in providing this software, that I'm giving back something of value to the community. Development plans are published here. And I'll selectively open source components of PropGen as I tidy up the code.

This is fundamentally an inviscid, lifting line method so follow up computations with higher order methods are advised before actually building something. Propgen has been tested and is known to work with Windows XP 32 bit, Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit, and Ubuntu Linux 32 bit. All testing has been with Sun's Java runtime. PropGen will not run on 64 bit Linux - this should be fixed in the next release. All performance and inverse design features are enabled. There are no known limitations. There should be no performance computation issues with variable pitch wind turbines. The inverse design feature is not yet supported for wind turbines. Fill out this form.
