Another record, another sign of success. I have good news to report! Tallying up my income for the month, I realized that I set a new monthly record. I beat my last record by 50%! After a phenomenal month of March, my income had dipped slightly in April and May. April's lack of income I attributed to the time that I put into getting the new house ready and moving in. I think May's income - which was less, but not as bad as April - I think was partly recovery, and partly just a slow month. Thankfully, cla...

Write On Target" - A good resource for advertising copywriters. One of the most recent "How To Write" books I checked out from the library was Write On Target: The Direct Marketer's Copywriting Handbook. His theory is that if you get yourself started putting words on paper, the rest will follow. Well, that should be enough to either pique your interest in the book - or convince you that you don't need or want to look at it. I do recommend checking it - and any other book - out at the library; no sens...

Memorial Day weekend and my rant about the responsibilities of owning pets, part II. I spent my weekend visiting Michael's friends and family. First we went to Des Moines to visit some old friends of his there, and then we went to Kansas City to see his family. Michael's brother lives "off the grid," out in the countryside where they can't just call the power company and set up an account. It's a large, beautiful lot with plenty of room for their horses. What it all comes down to is a lack of good laws o...

Maybe it's because of my ambition to be a writer, but I've always had an interest in collecting quotes that inspire me, hit on a profound truth, or make me think. Tonight, while watching "Prime Factors," an episode of. From the first season, I came across a particularly good one:. You can use logic to justify almost anything. That's its power - and its flaw.". There's nothing quite so good for a writer as when another writer pays you a compliment. I recently posted a link to Will Write for Chocolate. A new web comic that I've delighted in following. The author found my blog because I'd linked to hers, and linked back to mine from another of her blogs for writers. Here is the link as it appears on Inkygirl. And the compliment she paid me:. True, considering the upward trend in my income. I only hope my hard work continues to pay off! I often feel the articles I...

More work than I imagined. I think I've mentioned before how my freelancing work load tends to come and go in waves. Sometimes I won't have very much work, and other times I have almost more than I can handle. Right now seems to be shaping up to be one of the latter kind. Well, I'd better buckle down and start working on something! By Katharine Swan On Monday, January 30, 2006 At 1:47 PM 1 comments. Suggesting a contract really works! A while back I blogged on the importance of having a contract. For ind...

NaNoWriMo at Denver Comic Con! This past weekend was Denver Comic Con. I should have posted sooner, but I havent been very good about maintaining my blogs, and by the time I thought about it Comic Con was underway - and then I was too busy to post before the end. My co-ML for the Denver region, who is fantastic and has been an ML for many years, arranged with Comic Con for us to have a table there again, like we did at last years Comic Con. And this year, I was on a panel to talk about NaNoWriMo! Last we...
