The Providence Fireman: 01/31/08

Thursday, January 31, 2008. What You’ve ‘Got’. When you became a firefighter. No one gave you a magic pill. They trained you on what to do. Put you through drill after drill. But when the time comes to act. You turn within to find the will. Actions are what will show. What it is you’re made of. When you’re put to the test. And push comes to shove. All questions will be answered. With some help from above. Sometimes it’s rewarding. And sometimes it’s not. Sometimes it’s depressing. And that happens a lot.

Tuesday, January 29, 2008. COPY OF CICILLINE'S E-MAIL TO PROVIDENCE FIREFIGHTERS. I’ve tried many times in the past to send examples of Mayor Cicilline’s outright lies to the Letter-to-the-Editor of the Providence Journal with predominantly negative results. I’ve recently come across the copy of this e-mail from “candidate” Cicilline. Maybe I’ll have better results in proving my point using his own words. Subject: Request for Endorsement. Earlier today, I met with the executive committee of the Internati...

Monday, February 4, 2008. You, my love, are the one. My one and my only. You make me feel that I’m loved. Never letting me feel lonely. You make me feel feelings. I’ve never felt before. Feelings that you make me. So eager to explore. I now feel that I can share. All my hopes and my dreams. I’ve finally found my soul-mate. And in some ways it seems. Like we’ve always been together. Though we’ve only just begun. From the moment I first saw you. I knew you were the one. You started a fire in me, Nancy.

Thursday, June 12, 2008. Small Fire / Big Potential (x's 2). Small Fire / Big Potential. The other night we had what turned out to be a relatively small and ordinary fire in a house which was in renovation. At two different points during the fire, however, there was potential for catastrophic consequences – one known and one unknown. The second potentially dangerous situation was avoided by pure luck! Saturday, February 2, 2008. My God is known by many names. And in His eyes, we’re all the same. This is the way it has to be. For He’s the same as yours, you see. There’s only one God that I recognize. I see Him with my soul, if not my eyes. I see Him around us every single day. I turn to Him when I’ve lost my way. Your name or mine, He’s still the Creator. No need to debate whose God is greater. Your God or mine, He’s one in the same. And God is almighty, no matter His name. No matter who I believe be He.

The Providence Fireman: Providence Journal - Letter to the Editor
http://theprovidencefireman.blogspot.com/2015/07/providence-journal-letter-to-editor.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. Providence Journal - Letter to the Editor. In response to Steven Frias’ op/ed in Wednesday’s Journal titled, “Soaked by RI’s firefighter unions” my first thought was – are you kidding? That was 45 years ago. He wants to rationalize changing our hours back to 56 because that was the norm for firefighters in RI 45 years ago? Mr Frias is an attorney. Are lawyers working the same hours they did in 1971. What if I increased his weekly hours by 33% every week? 1971 - Average Income per y...

Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Firefighters - Neither Heroes nor Villains. Firefighters – Neither Heroes nor Villains. Over the past eight years firefighters, particularly those in RI, have endured a complete 360 degree turnabout in public perception. Obscurity - hero status - obscurity - villain. Those of us who make our living donning turnout gear and responding to fires and other emergencies haven’t changed, but the public’s perception of us seems to change on a whim. I don’t believe it! Subsequently, as is us...

Wednesday, February 6, 2008. My how things do change. As we grow, we become more sure. At the same time, however. We need each other more. I once sought everyone’s approval. Though I claimed I needed no one. On a constant quest for validation. Those wretched days are done! Over time as we mature. We gain the wisdom of age. Use a different set of standards. To objectively gauge…. To gauge our self-reliance. As well as our self-worth. For these are important qualities. Not bestowed upon us at birth. By the...

Thursday, February 21, 2008. Bergen Street House Fire / 19Feb08. 8221; I donned my mask as we waited for the arrival of the water through the 200 feet of hose. When we return and take the line back we continue to fight our way deeper into the building and believe we’re making good progress in knocking the fire down. What we were not aware of, however, was that the fire had taken hold of the second floor and was burning its way through the roof. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
