http://strangeink.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-circles-of-literary-hell.html
Wednesday, May 15, 2013. The Circles of Literary Hell. But, you don't actually think that's good. It was usually Harry Potter they were asking about. It's the kind of question you get asked when you're a writer, and the kind of question you get asked even more when you're a literature professor. We all understand that there is a difference between liking a book and thinking it is good, right? We get all that, right? I use the scare quotes for a reason. You may have noticed that Dan Brown has a new book o...

This post is in response to a comment I got on my previous post "More thoughts on the importance of science in science fiction". I'm only quoting the question-y part of her comment):. I'm hoping you can explain this a bit more to me because I really do want to understand! And a gif of the same if you can't be bothered watching and listening to the 47 second clip:. War On Suckers: Splash Down
http://waronsuckers.blogspot.com/2007/05/splash-down.html
Tuesday, May 22, 2007. Seems there is an unusual white cloud that begins at the fuselage and extends over the starboard wing during several frames after the apparent nose impact and infamous flash. This could be a case of bad masking when making the overlay or could it possibly an explosive decompression shock wave? As the fuselage is rapidly crushed from the front, the extreme internal pressure causes the emergency doors located over the wings to explode out. However if the plane were flying vertically ...

UXBlog | IDV Solutions' User Experience: Earthquakes since 1898
http://uxblog.idvsolutions.com/2012/06/earthquakes-since-1898.html
Data visualization at IDV Solutions. Monday, June 25, 2012. I've been looking at really general sources of existential risk. And visualizing them via the kitchen sink school of thematic mapping. So the earthquakes map was just a matter of time. Here, data from NCEDC.org. And the USGS and UC Berkeley have been sliced out into veneers based on magnitude, then glued onto and image that began it's life at NASA's Visual Earth. If historical epicenters were floaties, you could walk from Seattle to Wellington.

http://911logic.blogspot.com/2007/04/earth-is-not-flat.html
All logic. all the time. Saturday, April 14, 2007. The Earth Is Not Flat. I started this blog for one reason: to make what I discovered during my research available to the general public. After you review the information I have to present, you will know – as I do – that no planes crashed anywhere on September 11, 2001. No planes crashed anywhere on September 11th. It’s a fact. Now, imagine you’re holding th...

All logic. all the time. Sunday, December 17, 2006. Libby" Clark: 9/11 Eyewitness Report Cards, Installment VI. After reflecting upon the chain of logic I followed in order to determine the identity of this “eyewitness,” I decided it was interesting enough to present alongside the actual details of the information. In fact, it’s almost impossible for me to present the information without also explaining how I acquired it. 8220;Libby” Clark. 8220;Libby” defines her location as “the 33rd floor ...Trying to...

The American economist Dean Baker has a nice article this week titled How Many Economists Does it Take to See a $8 Trillion Housing Bubble? In any case, next time y...
