Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. February 15, 2011. I’ve decided to do my blog this week on my presentation, which was about learning in adults as a very general topic. I based my presentation on my musings, so if anyone has any thoughts, comments or arguments then I would find this really interesting. As there is so much you could incorporate into this I used four areas to structure my research/thoughts (I know it seems quite long, so I’ve chunked it)! Why do adults learn differently?

I attended the talk on educating people about the effects of bullying and whether this would help to reduce bullying in schools. The debate that followed was very intense and informative. In my experience I was bullied quite badly, which I will not put online but if you wish to discuss further you can email me (psu883). I think that it would be niave to think that bullies will not find ...

Just another WordPress.com site. In Science of Education. This week I decided to look at the effect of parental involvement on educational achievement. It seems plausible that when parents play an active role in their children’s education there will be positive outcomes. Before I review the research in this area I will define parental involvement and related behaviours, below is a table of Epstein’s conceptual framework for family-school-community involvement. Emotional Intelligence in Schools. I found y...

Long term benefits of lifelong learning. March 9, 2011 · Filed under Week 7. This week I attended a talk about the benefits of life long learning. During the talk various benefits were elluded to including physical and mental health, prosocial behaviour and lower crime levels. This last point was the most shocking for me but research by Levitt and Lochner (2000) was cited in support of this, showing that higher levels of maths skills leads to lower crime rates. 9 Responses so far ».
