Celebrate PSW Day, May 19. May 10, 2011. In 2010, the Government of Ontario declared May 19 PSW Day. PSW Day salutes the hard work and dedication of Ontario’s personal support workers (PSWs) and health aides. PSWs care for the elderly, injured and disabled in community care, long-term care and hospital facilities. These highly-skilled caregivers are able to handle a wide range of medical issues in the patient’s home, and play an integral role in Canada’s healthcare system. TELL US YOUR STORY.

Regulation of Health Professions in Ontario: New Dimensions. In its Septebmer 2006 report, the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) recommended that personal support workers (PSWs) not be regulated under the Regulated Health Professionals Act, since the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care remained actively involved in a range of education, practice and organizational issues relating to PSWs.
