http://peiyi68.blogspot.com/2009/10/lecture-7-face-and-politeness.html
This blog is open for the gek module's weekly reflection, for now i'll try to manage it for my study only. Lecture 7 Face and Politeness. This week is E-learning week. I'm not sure if I'm 100% understand the lecture note. Tact Maxim( to others). Approbation Maxim( to others). I am thinking about the literature review. The literature review is to show that not only me but many people interested in the relevant topic I am doing now. But then, what makes my research special? Why should people read mine?

GEK1036: I Give You Face, Not Love
http://letstalkwhatsayyou.blogspot.com/2009/10/i-give-you-face-not-love.html
Saturday, October 10, 2009. I Give You Face, Not Love. One of my friends claims that boys always say the same thing when breaking up with their girlfriends - "It's me, not you". When I thought about it, I realised that's an example of the use of the generosity maxim. I shall now attempt to see how breaking-up lines might go in terms of different maxims:. The tact maxim - "Have some time off to enjoy yourself while we are cooling down.". The agreement maxim - "You're such a jerk! That might anger the girl...

Yiwen's gek1036 reflections: November 2009
http://yiwenvsgek1036.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
For my cross-cultural communications module. November 13, 2009. GEM is finally coming to a close! And then its exams and then its holidays! The lessons learned in this class were merely tools in which greater analysis could be done. Most would have used these tools to analyse the people and cultures around them, but I prefer to use them to analyse myself. And that, in my opinion is the greatest benefit that i've gotten back from this module. In a project discussion. In a family dinner.

Yiwen's gek1036 reflections: Week 9: Computer Mediated Communication
http://yiwenvsgek1036.blogspot.com/2009/10/week-9-computer-mediated-communication.html
For my cross-cultural communications module. October 15, 2009. Week 9: Computer Mediated Communication. C u @ *$ 2ml. - No doubt that this looks like a string of profanities. Yet, it is not. More than the hidden message it carries, this string of weird looking characters represents an identity and a whole new language belonging to the advanced IT world today. It says, see you at Starbucks tomorrow, for the less computer-savvy bunch. Not complain to me ma.". One thing to comment on, its about sms greeting...

GEK1036: The Calling
http://letstalkwhatsayyou.blogspot.com/2009/09/calling.html
Saturday, September 12, 2009. I can't exactly recall how or when I answered my 1st phone call. However, I still remember some "unusual" phone calls which I've been receiving over the years. At that time, I had never received any wrong-number calls. Caller: Hello. Can speak to Mr X? Andy hang up the phone as there's no Mr X in the family). The same caller rang). Caller: Hello. Can speak to Mr X, please? Andy hang up the phone again). ONLY THEN this uncle starts talking). Uncle Y: Hello. Who's speaking?

GEK 1036: Lecture 9 Cross-Gender Interaction
http://peiyi68.blogspot.com/2009/10/lecture-9-cross-gender-interaction.html
This blog is open for the gek module's weekly reflection, for now i'll try to manage it for my study only. Lecture 9 Cross-Gender Interaction. This week we talk about the discrimination in written. Eg chinese words usually add the female character(女) on words to signify negative meaning. English, on the other hand, use man to represent both gender. We could try not to using the specific gender words, but what's most important is that we, from the deepest heart, do not discriminate our opposite gender.

September | 2009 | the reflections formerly known as "open-book quiz"
https://gek1036reflections.wordpress.com/2009/09
The reflections formerly known as open-book quiz. Just another WordPress.com weblog. September 22, 2009. This was especially interesting to me, as it was reminiscent of the inverted pyramid style of writing journalists use to ensure that all the important information is contained within the first few lines of a report. also, it seemed to reiterate the point made during the class on speech events, where chinese tend to beat around the bush in the course of their conversations. September 14, 2009. The exer...
