A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Why I recommend against using iUniverse. I am absolutely torn on the subject of iUniverse. In the end I must recommend against. Using them, and that's a real shame, because I've met many talented and dedicated people there. The good folks at iUniverse seem to outnumber the bad by a factor of two or three to one, so it seems totally unfair to judge iUniverse poorly. You might read my earlier post. Intere...

A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Friday, December 23, 2011. Soon I shall be an author! At long, long last, I believe I shall shortly be "an author". I signed off on the between-the-covers content last week, and made what I hope is the last tweak to the covers today. Provided the changes to the cover come through ok, I will shortly be publishing my book. As a first-time author, I was really surprised at several aspects of the process. Oh ye who condemns the gre...

A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Thursday, March 15, 2012. Kirkus Indie reviews: Incredibly worth it. To put in a plug for Kirkus Indie reviews. I got mine last week. My work is nonfiction, and the reviewer actually went in and verified individual facts with the data I presented - even found one shortcoming! Type measure up to what I got from Kirkus. Good on you, Kirkus. Posted by Jeff Evarts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Friday, March 18, 2011. Editor's Choice: check. Now, for the hard part. IUniverse tells me this morning that my manuscript has received their Editor's Choice Award. From what I gather, that's a 90-to-94th percentile "grade". I guess I'd be more pleased about that if I knew what kind of stuff I'd been up against. Monday we begin planning. Here goes nothing. Posted by Jeff Evarts. Friday, March 11, 2011. A first time "subject" author meets the publishing industry. Hilarity ensues. Monday, April 11, 2011. OK, there is probably. A book-industry term for it too, but I only know the movie industry one. I am now officially in cover-copy-polish mode, so the body/content of the book is frozen. After so long in editing mode, this really feels like a big step forward. Still waiting to hear on the Rising Star front, and marketing looms on the dark horizon. We shall see. Posted by Jeff Evarts. Sunday, April 3, 2011.

Views, news and commentary on publishing and more. Monday, 14 July 2008. Young book lovers wanted! Forgive me. I've been remiss. I haven't posted on this blog since April. It's because I've been unfaithful: I've been blogging on the Skillset. Blog instead. But normal service, if slightly less frequent, will now be resumed. A light, seen through the thick of the jungle. One of the main perspectives of the PUBS vs. DoJ case is that it is the consumers who are losing when e-book prices are fixed. It is difficult to imagine that there are benefits other than economic for consumers but ultimately there is a larger conflict at hand when discussing the price fix dilemma. This is one of the ideas asserted by an article found in The Economist. As the backlash continues from the lawsuit filed by the Justice Department. Although curr...
