25th Wedding Anniversary Party aboard the Rose of Hungerford. On the 10th June we enjoyed our second 25th Wedding Anniversary Party but this time aboard ‘The Rose of Hungerford. 40 members of our family and old friends joined us for an evening cruise with a lovely buffet meal. Viewing the 25 years of marriage video. Bought back memories for many. It was wonderful to meet up with so many people who had attended our wedding. Click here for more pictures of the party.

Pukeko is 42’ (feet) long (12m) and 6’10 (2m) wide. This enables her to cruise both the broad and narrow canals of England. In the water she draws a maximum of 22 (0.56m) so she copes pretty well with shallow water. The engine is an Isuzu 3 cylinder, 22 horsepower model. Not the smoothest of engines (we need new engine mounts) but it’s a good starter and seems reliable (so far).

Pukeko is a Maori name for a fascinating New Zealand bird sometimes known there as a Swamp Hen. Pukekos like to hang around ditches and small waterways in groups of 2 or 3. They never seem to be in a hurry and give the impression they like a good gossip. We used to live in New Zealand and fell in love with these quirky birds. New Zealanders love them too because there’s a whole genre of Pukeko stuff that one can buy from Pukeko mugs and plates through to Pukeko quilt covers. North of the equator.
