Light as a Balm. September 26, 2016. September 26, 2016. My art history professor showed a slide of Mortlake Terrace by J.M.W. Turner in class last week, projected up on the long wall at the front of the classroom. He said some things about the color and the light, because it’s Turner, of course, but I don’t remember what because I was sitting there in … Continue reading Light as a Balm. Light as a Balm. September 26, 2016. September 26, 2016. Yellow is my favorite color and this painting is one of the reasons. Look into that deep distance where the light comes in. What had to be in Turner’s mind for him to paint this? How do you create something so full of light and peace, gathering in the belief that there is hope left–anywhere in the world you can find it–by the way the golden leaves dust the sky like a crown? By turning the water into a glassy mirror? To bring up, What is art, really?

I’m studying English (sometimes I can’t remember why, either) particularly American literature (oh yeah, that’s why) and history and some art history thrown in for good measure. I’m a Christian, a writer trying to be an author, and I buy a lot of books that I don’t have time to read (haha, that’s a lie. All the time is the time to read.). 8221; or “Have you read by Steinbeck? 8221; or “I heard you’re really into the World Wars” and we’ll be friends instantly.

What I Read: October. Monday, November 07, 2016. October is over, and 2016 is almost over too, which is really wild to think about. But for now, here's what I read this past month! It's hard to find the words to sum up how much I loved this book. Colleen Hoover doesn't disappoint, and Slammed. Is easily one of my favorite books. This book wa...

Besides the students, instructors, and owners, the thing that irritates me the most about co-owning a martial arts and fitness academy is being forced to deal with The Martial Arts Guy. Today after class, I was cleaning and preparing the academy to host a two-day Tai Chi seminar when a Martial Arts Guy walked inside. Of all the BJJ joints. This web site is not about pulling the wool over the readers eyes, it is about expressing my personal views on a wide range of topics and about which the bureaucracy would probably like to pull the wool over our eyes. The bureaucracy includes Central and Local government, Parliament, Quangos, Large Business, the Church and many other vested interest groups. The site is a mixture of both blog's and articles grouped under a range of topics shown on the menus to the left.
