The Richtersveld is home to many plant and animal life and this unexplored, undeveloped mountain desert is a favourite destination for the more experienced, self-sufficient 4x4 adventurer. Pumba 4x4 Adventure Trail. The mid-year school holidays is the best and ideal time of the year for the annual Botswana 4x4 Tour. The tour group meet at 03:00 at the Petroport filling station on the N1 hi-way just outside Pretoria towards Pietersburg. Paperwork are completed and 2-way radios are handed out before we have a short driver meeting to discuss do’s and don’ts. The convoy depart from here towards the Martin’s Drift border post. Pumba 4x4 Adventure Trail. We meet at the Punda Maria campsite in the Kruger National Park where a driver meeting will be held around the camp-fire. From here we depart in convoy and visit Crooks Corner before we exit South Africa and enter Mozambique at the Pafuri border post. If the water level of the Limpopo river is low enough we cross it with caution as crocodile and hippo lie in wake. Our second night is spent between Pafuri and Inhassorro with no facilities whatsoever. Self catering camping tour.

The trail varies slightly as the water level of the Umzimkulu River rises in October/November but the rain fills a number of smaller mountain streams that we need to cross carefully on our way to breath-taking lookout points. From here we depart in convoy and follow back roads to where we will need 4 wheel drive.
