Jana and New Zealand. Uring the winter semester 05/06 (October 2005 - March 2006) I completed my obligatory 20-week internship at University of Otago in Dunedin, which is on the south island of New Zealand. I spent my spare time for travelling this incredibly beautiful country as much as possible. The grand finale was a two and a half week long journey cross-country around the south- and north island, before I had to return to Germany, unfortunately. Central Otago and Fjordland. Die schöne Stadt Dunedin.

Musings From the Trail. Stories from a year abroad. My month in New Zealand has flown by and here I am, already 2 days into the next chapter, sitting in the garden of my guesthouse in Kathmandu, Nepal. I have a sneaking suspicion the entire year of travel will be going this way. My time was spent almost exclusively on the South Island and a majority of that time was in Fiordland. One thing the South Island ain’t shy on is natural beauty. It’s a stunner. First stop was the Routeburn Track. Next up was 5 d...

Food and fun around New Zealand. On the weekend of 4-6 August, Gaby and I made our first trip south of Christchurch to Lake Tekapo. We met up with our friends Dave and Elizabeth for a weekend of fun exploring the area. We left Christchurch early Friday afternoon so we could see the countryside in daylight. From Christchurch we traveled south on State Highway 1. When we reached Rangitata we turned off onto State Highway 79 through Geraldine to Fairlie. Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

When not in Antarctica my wife and I travel extensively around the world. Thursday, June 30, 2005. Travel 2004, NEW ZEALAND! I've procrastinated on posting the travel log from last year long enough, so here it goes. Fortunately I've learned a few things in my time coming down here and was able to coach Heather on just how to expedite the process. We blazed all this, hopped into a cab and dropped off our luggage at the hotel, we usually stay at the Stonehurst. And went right to Sala Sala. Area, which is o...
