PQA Plus &Animal Welfare. Our sows are free to roam with access to fresh water, and are fed wholesome, quality feed. When the sows are ready to farrow (birth) they are moved in groups of 8-10 sows. They each have their own A-frame birthing hut to birth in. This allows the piglets to move away from their mother out of harm if necessary. Straw is added as needed to make the waste a composted material then the hoops are then cleaned out. The waste and compost is piled on clay soil. With less than 7 inches of rain a year there is no run off, the moisture that we receive helps add fuel to the compost. The compost is spread agronomical on fields that raise grain crops.
