Riding Journey: July 2014
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. We went off up the hill. Quick picked a a nice canter. My stirrups were a little long for two pointing, but I got my bum out of the saddle. I was distracted by the fact that I had just gotten him to leg yield over at a canter to avoid a blackberry bush that threatened to claw us and asked to go back the direction we just came, and he did! OMG WHO PUT A PIECE OF WOOD THERE? Thursday, July 17, 2014. Quick had the trailer to himself! Paula Rasler, Kathleen Jepsom, and Molly Farkas.

Riding Journey: January 2015
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2015. What is this place you speak of where the green grass grows? Where the water flows? Take me there. Take me there. What is this place you speak of where the hate is no more? What is this place you speak of where they understand my needs? Take me there. Take me there. What is this place you speak of where they listen to my voice? What is this place you speak of where hunger is no more? Take me there. Take me there. I have seen it in your eyes. Here is where I run through the hills.

Riding Journey: May 2015
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 7, 2015. A 50 to Boot. Or the continuing adventures of the Spookaloosa. Angry Spookaloosa after Roz left on the Friday 25. Sometimes on the trail your mind is filled with thoughts and sometimes it is silent, you are focused on your horse and how he is doing. I was doing a lot of listening, feeling and just enjoying the time in the saddle on the trail with Quick. If I had any doubts about this little Appy, they are gone now. He is one tough Spookaloosa. Lest we forget that he is a Spookaloosa.

Riding Journey: December 2014
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 15, 2014. One of the most frustrating things for me is lateral work. Any sort of lateral work. On a horse like Foo, who has a good deal of western training under her girth, it is easy. I just have to figure out what buttons to press, keep her shoulders or hips in alignment and ta-da! With everyone else. I still have trouble. It is a huge gaping hole in my knowledge. Here is the video I have, if you want to watch it. So, this is my early New Years resolution- OWN LATERAL WORK.

Riding Journey: September 2014
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Don't mind me, I'm riding a Spookaloosa. Or Our First 100. On the left, an example of a slightly worn shoe. And on the right, what was left of one of Quick's shoes. All of my stress left when we got there. Well I did get horribly nauseous with a bad headache when we got into Bend. It was really all I could do to set up Quick's corral and everything before I crawled into bed with a damp towel over my eyes. Quick wanted to go shopping! Spookaloosa out by himself! I never really...

Riding Journey: June 2014
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Ready to see what it looks like riding Quick? I had bought a cheap $20 little digital camera back in April when my phone camera died. I duct taped it to an old helmet of mine. Here is the result! The mountain monster in action! I was watching it again last night, and I must say I am super proud of this pony. He has come so far, just powering up this extremely difficult trail. And yes we got drenched on the other side of the summit and all the way down. :(. Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Riding Journey: March 2015
http://rarejourney-laura.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 16, 2015. A Thing for Spots. Horses come and go on my Facebook news feed daily. Horses at rescues, horses at auctions, thoroughbreds off the track. the list goes on and on. Well the other Friday I woke up and was having a bit of a tough week. Just a bad week all over, Quick was lame, other horses were acting up and even though I was having AMAZING rides on Journey (which I promise to detail later) I still was rather bummed. I thought about taking a trip to Sisters just to get away. Ethereal...

Monday, June 22, 2015. Or Spook for 80 Miles. I was really excited when I found out Lois was having an 80 mile ride at Sunriver this year. I planned early on to do the 80 if we were going to Tevis or the 100 if we were not. I made the final decision after Still Memorial that we were going to Tevis. It is not a decision I made lightly, but more about that later. Just another thing I have learned because of the chestnut thoroughbred mare. Photo by Cassidy Rae Photography. We were only a couple miles from c...
